You might consider giving this a read: How To Ask Questions The Smart Way. It was written for people asking questions about open-source software, but most of it is relevant for this too. That should actually pretty much be required reading for anyone asking questions on the internet.

- Don't say you've found a new ???, especially in an area that's been around for more than five years, even if you really think it is new. More cynical posters (read: most of us) will think you think we're about as observant as the poor sap that tripped the claymore mine. Instead, say there's a ??? you have not seen before. If it is new, that conclusion will be reached fairly quickly by the folks responding.
- Tell us what you did to find out the answer on your own - without being prompted to do so. This includes everywhere you searched, and preferably what queries you used. (If those searches don't include ffxi.wikia.com (or some equivalent) and Google, you haven't looked hard enough.) It shows that you actually care about your question. It also shows you value our time - nobody likes having their time wasted. If someone who didn't know the answer but knew the resources better than you wanted to help, it's nice not to go down the same dead-ends twice.
- Nobody owes you an answer. We generally do give answers, but we aren't bound to. Acting enraged, insulted, etc., when you don't get answers won't help.
