Hi all. i quit FFXI after CoP came out, ran all but one of the proms. but now that im coming back, there are 2 new expansions. so my question is can i still have fun with RoZ and CoP as my only expansions or is it vital that i buy the other 2? i'd really like to get back into this game it still is my favorite but i'd really hate to buy the 2 new expansions and realize i just can't play anymore. So you guys think i can get back inot the game without purchasing the x-pacs and get them later once i figure out if its gona be worth it to me or coming back without them is pointless?

You'll want them both for sure. ToAU especially if you plan to level past 54.
It's not like they're expensive either. The 2008 collection is fairly cheap and gives you all 4 expansions. -

You will likely never hit 75 in any job without ToA unless you're willing to solo. WotG is still optional at this point, but that may be subject to change when more zones within it open up.

You can for a while. But if you're interested in leveling for EXP much past 55ish, then you'll need TOAU. I don't know about WoG.
Also, if you want to try out the new jobs, you'll obviously need the corresponding expansion.

Yeah it IS important to keep in mind that if you want BLU, COR, PUP, SCH and DNC open to you for main or subjob purposes, that ToA and WotG are a requirement. Additionally, there is some equipment you can only obtain if you have access to the content in these expansions.Comment

Get all of them, you will want all of them. The level 26-32 leveling area is a Rise of the Zilart area. Treasues of Aht Ughrgan is a requirement. WotG is important too because you will want access to the new jobs somewhere down the line.
In fact, there's no reason not to get all the expanisons, because buying them all seperate costs MORE than just buying the Vanadiel 2008 collection, and with the 2008 you only need to put in one "activation" code, if you bought them all seperate, you'd need to put it in 5.BRD 75 WHM 44 RDM 20 NIN 23 WAR 20 THF 16

Short answer. No you don't need them to start playing.

Everybody keeps saying "yes, you'll want it" ... I'd say you can just jump back in so long as you're not 50+ and see how you like it. You'll need it later, of course, but not yet.Comment

Is the 2008 collection out yet for the Pc? I thought I only saw it for the consoles.
Nin75, Bst75. Drk61, War61, Rdm40, All other jobs are 37. All 3 starting city missions completed. All Zilart missions completed. All CoP missions completed. TouA completed.Comment

As far as I know the 2008 collection is out for consoles only. If it has come out for PC then the local Best Buy hasn't gotten it yet.Comment

The 2008 collection launched for all platforms on the same day (well, PC version got delayed by a few days 'cause of that stupid Vista Only label) but they're all out there fools

I looked online and only saw 07 collection not 08. I checked at Gamestop and Best Buy when I took my nephew shopping, and I didn't see any for PC.
I am rebuilding my PC and would hate to load the original discs... Thats going to be 40 hours of downloading files LoL.

At this point TOAU is practically a requirement mainly b/c of the leveling areas (50 ->75). Not to mention it also opens up the Salvage gear sets and Assault Gear sets as well. The Salvage gear sets are highly wanted on most, if not all, jobs. You can take a peek of them on wiki. Not to mention, Besiged & Assaults are a good way to kill time when you only have one or two hrs online (granted there is a Besiged going on).
WOTG seems rather optional at this point. People haven't really migrated to new lvling areas that WOTG offers. However if you have a job around 55+ I would highly recommend WOTG mainly b/c of campaign battles. Campaign Battles, unlike Besiged in TOAU, are constantly happening and around 55 it seems you'd get the most out of Campaign Battles. It's a good way to do something while seeking for a PT invite or just to kill time again. Also WOTG opens up a few more areas for low lvls to solo/PT, which is always a plus in my book.
