I know, I'm new. forgive me, lol


if you have a main job say BLM, and I sub say WHM, can I get both to 75 and have BLM as my main job or? can I only keep a sub at a certain level.


I also hear you can change your jobs pretty easily at will, is this true?

You can take every job to 75. Job/subjob is just what you chose at that moment.

Example: I have RDM at 75 and BLM at 61. If I want to sub BLM to RDM I am 75RDM/37BLM. If I want to change to BLM/RDM I end up being 61BLM/30RDM. If I change back to RDM main, it's right back to 75RDM.

Well, there are a ton of resources to answer this question. Try ffxiclopedia.com. The quick answer is that your sub job will always be half or less than your main job's level. 75blm/37whm. The sub job gets capped. Make sure to keep it capped at half or people will get angry...
Job Changing: Very easy. You can change them at your Mog House and many different Nomad Moogles around the world.

You can indeed get both jobs to 75, but the subjob will always be half the level of your current main job when activiated. (i.e you have blm 75 and whm 75, but when you are blm/whm it will read as 75blm/37whm)

You need only to go to your moghouse in order to change what job you currently are. Pretty simple.

You can change jobs at will, no problems, no penalties. Extra jobs you have to unlock first (each has a quest you can do once you have one job at level 30), but any job you can have access to, you can change to and level. You don't lose anything by doing this.

You level each job independently. Leveling BLM to 75 does nothing to WHM. Leveling WHM to 75 does nothing to BLM. If you have them both at 75, you can be a BLM75/WHM37 or a WHM75/BLM37. And if your WAR is level 3, you can also be a WHM75/WAR3, BLM75/WAR3, WAR3/WHM1 or WAR3/BLM1. You shouldn't do any of those last four combinations though, because they all suck.

You should do some research on what subjobs are generally accepted and which aren't. Each job has a job/sub job forum on this site. Also, if your sub job is lower than your main, ex: 30BLM/12WHM, you have what is called a "Gimp" sub. Try to keep you sub capped at all times. For best leveling results, you could try something like this:

Take WHM to 18
(Get sub job ability)
Take BLM/WHM to 37
Take WHM/BLM to 75

Of course there are a million ways to do this, but this is just an example of how to keep your sub job capped and get to 75 while only leveling two jobs.

I could see doing WAR3/WHM1 when just starting off WAR, though MNK is a far better sub. Besides, there are situations (normally not for XP, but other things) where it's better to use a certain sub even if it's gimp ... for instance, my THF is 32, but I'll sub it in for TH when farming. I even went to one skill-up PT as WHM/RNG18 specifically for the accuracy bonus. Like I said, though, they're special-use.
