You can not skill up while participating in Campaign, which is unreasonable.
For those very convenient campaign battles, you can choose between experience points (and Allied Notes)--or get skill ups and risk exp loss by foregoing Allied Tags.
Exp parties are more troublesome to set up, so it should have greater benefits--you can skill up, (potentially) gain experience points (faster), and receive Conquest Points or Imperial Standing Points.
Skill up parties are very troublesome to set up, but you get to improve skills which you'd ordinarily have trouble skilling up in, and no one would complain about the bad exp.
Besieged happens infrequently, but you can skill up, gain experience points, and get ISP.
What S-E has done is to provide substantively different ways of getting experience points, "reward" points, and skill points. You just have trade offs to consider, and cannot mindlessly and repeatedly just do one thing over and over to get the best benefits in all categories.
I consider that a good design. ("Meaningful choices" are good!)

Yea, but the enemies are often 75+ making it rather difficult.
Actually, I'd say that makes skilling certain things VERY easy ... I used to get multiple Evasion skillups when I attracted a mob's attention. Of course, I was splattered on the ground shortly thereafter...
I would, occasionally (before my Blue Mage hit 75), go to Besieged with the express purpose of just spamming random spells for the skill ups. It worked rather well, as the mobs, being much higher lvl than I, would give fat .3-.5 skill ups, and since my damage was so low, I hardly ever attracted mob attention (death due to AoE, however, was a very significant threat). Worked wonders, and I even managed to learn a spell from it too.
One reason I don't want to see skill ups in Campaign:
There are enough retards running around in it, they shouldn't be rewarded with skillups when they're hardly performing thier roles to start with. Do you think I want you to get sword and magic skillups when curing and raising others becomes completely optional?

Roll in a group? I play solo as Pld/Nin, and I deal damage, tank, heal, and raise when necessary. It all contributes to my reward in the end, so why wouldn't I toss a heal or raise when I'm simply skilling up a weapon? When Jagidbod shows up I whip out the dark staff anyways. Nothing would really change, except the enemies might take a little longer to kill, and that benefits the people swinging their skilled weapons.

So we can skillup so long as we forgo the tags? I'll try that tonight. My staff is 209 and I could have Spirit Taker without even capping my skill, but finding and even match that won't slaughter me is tough and I spend more time casting buffs/debuffs than swinging. I find I don't miss much when I melee them with tags on, hopefully that won't change with tags off. I can put Kocco's earring to use. ^^
As far as I know, this is true--though I've not tested it.
Keep in mind that you can get K.O.'ed in battle, and with out Allied Tag you will lose experience points if K.O.'ed. Skill up parties is still the most efficient way of getting skill ups, in my opinion. >_>;

Eh, the last skillup party I was in was deep in that Quadav base. Spent 3 hours there and got 0.0 skill to show for it. Find people to skillup with is hard, finding people who can skill off the same mobs is impossible.
No skillup off the Yagudo that attack West Sarutabaruta [S]. Somebody just told the me that the mobs are level 50 too, which would explain why I don't miss or hit for low teens damage. I'll see if I can attack a boss for a while without him killing everybody around me then picking me off. It might be that you can't get skill off of the mobs with Tag status either.
Edit: 129 Club didn't go up either but I trouble hitting.
