  • What About Chocobos In WoTG?

This idea has only just sprang to mind over a couple of evenings ago when I was wandering through one of the new
    [S] zones for WoTG.

I'd like to know what all your opinions are on having the option to ride a chocobo in the new zones, specifically the outside areas as usual. (Jugner Forest [S], Meriphataud Mountains [S], Batallia Downs [s] e.t.c]

I'm thinking that it might be useful just to travel between all the zones, since they are a bit long, and would make for quicker journying. But then I have a reason against it too.

Am I right in saying that chocobos didn't really exist during war time, at whenever the past is set to in Vana 'diel?
If this is the case, then maybe that would be a good reason NOT to have chocobos for WoTG..... hence it would be pointless.

These are just things I'm speculating on, and maybe I'm not completely sure on whether I would be correct or not.

So I'm just wondering what your opinions are on this please?
Would it be a good/nice idea to have chocobos for WoTG, or not at all?

P.S. - I tried to use my chocobo whistle in there too, but it says you can't use it in those areas. So I just continued on happily playing.

Re: What About Chocobos In WoTG?

    (Insert oblig. bold rant)

Chocobos existed, but SE has chosen not to make them available to the players (yet?). However, travel is actually exceedingly fast after a player has visited the zones he or she is interested in traveling to, as there is a very reasonably priced NPC that will teleport you to nine of the current WotG zones. The main purpose of using a chocobo - fast travel - is therefore already served by the warp NPCs, rendering chocobos obsolete.

There are chocobo people in all three nations, standing next to colored chocobos wearing armor. They say "chocobo rental is not available right now"

Wow! These teleport npcs for zones in WoTG sound rather handy indeed then!
But I'm not really sure where to find them. Could anyone advise here please?

I've noticed one of the npcs ingame this evening (standing next to coloured chobos like you said) saying that chocobos aren't available to use yet. So I guess that would be the same in all 3 main cities in WoTG.
No probs. Was just wondering really.

That isn't the full list, but that's everyone that has a wiki page (3 didn't if I counted right and got all the zones). The first 3 will teleport you out, the rest will only teleport you back. You can also only teleport out to a zone you have passed through before, with the exception of the 3 dungeons (Crawlers' Nest, Garlage Citadel, The Eldemene Necropolis) -- 12 zones in all. It's also only available if you have aligned itself with any nation, though it works from any of the 3 nations.

The Warp NPCs are nice but hopefully those Choboco NPCs aren't there for nothing. I would still like to see chobocs available but it just seems to be a feature that has not been released yet...

Another thing about the warp NPCs is that you actually have to have visited the zone to warp there...

Re: What About Chocobos In WoTG?

I'm having a bit of a problem with these warp npc's, or there's something I'm not understanding here!

I've just logged out, having spent a little time near and around Bastok Markets [S].
I went to speak to the npc at the link here Narkissa, C.A.

In that link, it says that the npc offers : Campaign Information, Campaign Allied Tags, and Teleportation.

But when I speak to her, all she says is.....

"What are you doing here? This is no place for civilians."

So what gives?! How am I supposed to get all this info out of her and teleportation e.t.c.? I don't understand!

Do you have to have the starting quests done first perhaps?
The only place I can do the starting quests for, is Windurst [S], since that was the first place I went to when I arrived in Rolandberry Fields [S] after warping through the Cavernous Maw, and set that place as my allied nation. (or however you call it) So I guess I would only be able to use the warp npc at Windurst [S] instead.

Am I correct on what I am saying here, about getting the starting quests done, or am I just really confused on all this?
Can someone help me out here please?

Also don't forget, the first time you entered a Cavernous Maw, Chocobo's appear in the cutscene in the past. Colored ones even.

Ahh yes.... I seem to remember seeing them in the cutscene when I first entered through The Maw now. So I guess that answers my question as to whether they existed in the past.

I think it would be nice if SE were to make them available somehow. I guess it will just be something that they will hopefully add in later on at some point instead.

                  ------------------------------------------

Is there anyone who can answer my question above, on the teleportation thing please!!?? I'm still a bit unsure on how I'm supposed to to use the system!

Was I correct or not on what I said? Will I have to go to Windurst [S] and complete the starting quests there, in order to be able to use the teleportation system from the NPC or not please?

I'm a bit confused on this, and would like someone to help me out a bit pleeaase!!??

Oh... nearly forgot. There's something else I'm not sure about too.
It's the Sprinter's shoes. How do you get those please? Are they only accessible through joining a campaign or something?

Please forgive me for being confused (still!) on this.

Re: What About Chocobos In WoTG?

If you began the quest "Snake on the Plains" in Windurst Waters [s] then you'll have to go back there and finish it. If not, you could also do "Steamed Rams" for San d'Oria or "The Fighting Fourth" for Bastok. Check your key items for the invitation cards.

Once you're a soldier you can teleport. And you're given a free pair of sprinter's shoes.

Thanks a lot for your help! I remember receiving some putty (probably as a key item) from the npc in Windurst [S], and so I probably started the quest there, which is where I will go back to.

One other thing I'm not sure of.... is where do you warp to from the city npc's please?
If you're in Windurst [S], can you choose to go to Bastok [S] or Sandy [S]?
If you're in Sandy [S], can you choose to go to Bastok [S] or Windy [S]?
Well.... you get the idea of what I'm asking, don't you?

Anyhow.... thanks again for the help.
I'm off to go do these quests and stuff, and see what happens.

Oh.... by the way..... are you allowed to do the starting quests in all 3 nations, or only the one you have started your allegiance with? (which in my case, is Windy [S]) I'm asking this, because I'd like to know how you warp from the npc's in the other 2 cities too, and I'm still rather confused I think.

                      Sorry to ask.

Re: What About Chocobos In WoTG?

You can only teleport to and from the city of your (in the past) allied nation.

When you teleport from the city of your allied nation, you can choose the zone to teleport to. When you teleport from any zone outside the city of your allied nation, your only option is to teleport to the city of your allied nation.

I suggest you read read the "Traveling to a Campaign Battle" and "Participation in a Campaign Battle" section in "Campaig Battles" on the wiki for the details on NPCs that can teleport.

To teleport, speak to outpost guards or Campaign Arbiters like Wenonah in Windurst Waters [S]. In the past you can teleport from a city to any outdoor zone. So you can go from Windurst [S] to Gustaberg [S] if you like. But from those places you can only teleport back to the nation you serve.

                          Edit: too slow =/

Re: What About Chocobos In WoTG?

Thanks a lot for the help guys!
Reading through the quests for each of the main cities, I've actually realised that I may NOT be able to use the warp npc's after all.... well not unless I take certain actions.

For the 3rd part of these starting quests in all 3 main cities, I believe each one of them has you fighting an NM to be able to complete them. Now, lots of creatures in all the past zones for WoTG are all high level, and most them are all higher level than my highest job level, (WHM/43) which is why I'm saying that I may not be able to use these warp npc's in WoTG. (for a WHM though, it's relatively easy just to get to the 3 nations alone, just because of the use of sneak/invis, which I have been using to avoid getting in the way of creatures, thus avoiding getting my hide kicked to pieces by any of them. I completed all three map quests too, to help me get through the new zones, so that was rather easy to solo too)

Completeness of all 3 starting quests in one city allows you access to teleport and other things.
I cannot kill/solo the NM due to higher level, and therefore..... no teleportation options for me.

Only way around this can think of, is either :
Try and get help from someone who is higher level than me. (which could be a bit awkward since other players are usually busy with other stuff)

                            OR....
Keep partying to level my WHM (finding parties has been okay for me, though sometimes a little awkward) until I reach a level where I can solo the NM with ease. (that would literally take a lifeteime I guess. )

I guess I don't have much of a choice really.
                            Ahh well..... *sigh!*

At least I could still go level dancer and other things in the meantime.

I'm sorry for doing too much posting lately.
That's all for now. I think I'll stop talking now. Hehe.

You only need to do the first of the three quests to join the forces of that nation. And when you have joined their forces, you can teleport for a small amount of Allied Notes.

To get allied notes (and exp), you can either do Campaign Battles or Campaign Operations. There are Campaign Operations you can do that don't involve any fighting, so you can do them on your WHM. You may even get some when curing with your WHM in Campaign Battles.

When it comes to the NM fight in the 3rd quest, can you wait at the pop ??? for the NM and ask others who come to do the NM fight if you can join their party. This is what I did to get these fights done.
