  • What should I do with my gil?

My good friend quit FFXI because samurai got gimped or something like that. Anyway, he gave me 1,000,000 gil and a Lu Shang's Fishing rod... Now, I'm only level 42 White Mage and this is a giant amount of gil for me considering I've never owned more than 50,000 at a time. I have a few extra questions:

    1. Should I sell the Lu Shang's Fishing Rod for 1,700,000 gil?
    2. If not, should I bother leveling fishing up? My cooking is already 30.
    3. If I fish bastore sardines and such with full fishing gear and Lu Shangs will I still get fishing level ups or do I have to fish something equivalent to Lu Shangs + Fishing Gear + Current Fishing Level to get level ups?

    And to the main question:

I'm not really sure what to spend it on, and I do not like wasting money on something I'll probably just resell in a few weeks or months for a lower price. I'm wanting to invest it on something that I can either use for a long time, make a lot of money or increase certain crafts.

In short, what would you invest the gil in if your main was level 42?

EDIT: My current fishing level is 3.

Your friend is an idiot. Spend the money on yourself, and forget about fishing. The skill ups are far and few between, but if you're serious about cooking then it'll be an important aspect of it.

Use the money for equipment that you know you'll need in the future. Do some research on what equipment you think you need 5 levels away from you (higher or lower if you want) and then decide if you want to buy them. For the Lu Shang Rod, at your skill, I don't think you'll be able to handle this rod until you're a lot higher. I'd recommend you selling it if you don't plan to take fishing seriously.

Btw, seems like a lot of people quitting because of the SAM update (technically "downdate"). Hopefully you'll still enjoy the game. Take care!

When he gave you that Lu Rod. He just handed you a goldmine. DO NOT sell that Rod. It'll be worth it to have it when that 1 mil is gone. Start skilling up. If you are level 3 fishing, go ahead with the Sardines. Check the fishing guides to plan what to you would like to fish. It is one of the longer ones to skill up with.

You can profit on almost anything you skill up fishing on. Spend the 1mil on yourself since it's one of the cheapest crafts anyway. That Lu Rod has so much gil potential it's crazy. I'd strongly suggest you take up fishing since you just cut out the hardest part of it.

I agree that his friend is an idiot, but you'd be a fool not to raise fishing with a Lu Shang handy.

Yes, you could just sell it and end up with nearly 3 mil... but that money will eventually dwindle. Lu Shang is crucial to skill ups post 50 for fishing and will help your earn a lot of money in the long run.

Don't forget that fishing skill doesn't count towards your craft skill caps (that is, you can raise it to 100 and still raise another craft to 100 if you like)

Here's a really great site for fishing info.

          http://www.finalfishing.com/

You might want to consider using the money to help raise cooking a bit higher (to make your own fishing bait) and wood working so you can repair your Lu Shang should it ever break (Legendary fish can break it, and it really sucks when it does)

Or you could spend that gil on your WHM and whatever crafts you wish to level. Whatever the case, just be sure you're getting your money's worth.

But is fishing really that profitable? I heard that you can only fish 200 every real day and I can fish about 150 Bastore Sardines in less than 2 hours in port windurst(Also, I never got one skill up in doing this which makes me think I can't get skillups on bastore sardines)

EDIT: Maybe 150 is a bit exaggerated but I can fish 200 really fast.

Those aren't the most profitable fish. If you want profit, fish moat carps till 11. Anyway, I'll just tell you that when I got my Lu Rod. I started making 100-150k a day on the fish I caught. Heck, I still fish them just for skill ups and make gil off of them. Just go to Knightswell (Well, that's my place of preference for moats) and fish your heart out. 3k a stack for 16 stacks a day can add up.

Use the gil he gave you to buy a Noble's Tunic because you'll want it later on and use the Lu Shang's Rod to skill up fishing because if you sell it, you'll have to go to a lot of effort to get another one.

I would recommend using the Moat Carp version of the Titanictus Fishing skill guide. That way, when you get your own Lu Shang's, you'll have TWO and you can sell one.

Or since he already has it he can just go for the fastest/most profitable skill up method.

That quest takes ages to do.

I agree with this point. Use the 1m to buy a Noble's and use or keep the rest. Arguably one of the best pieces of equip for a WHM giving it quite a heavy price tag for players without a solid income. Either buy it now, or put it off until you actually need/want it but are too broke to afford it and then ask yourself "Why?"

Save the money. As WHM there's nothing worth buying with that kind of gil for a long long long long time, and by then you'll know what you want to buy. As for the Lu Shang's rod, just hold on to it incase you feel like leveling fishing. It will make it easier. I should also say I don't think it's worth doing fishing unless you actually like it.

Someone mentioned the Noble's Tunic, and while that probably is worth buying there's no reason to buy it now instead of when you're 1-2 levels away from being able to wear it. What if you quit WHM and decide to level another job instead?

Hello, this is a request for an urgent business relationship. I must solicit your strictest confidence in this matter. I am a top official of the Nigerian Federal Government and our government is interested muling some stuff onto our alts. Unfortunately a large portion of our funds are on other mules on other accounts. We would like your assistance in order to transfer our funds by way of your delivery box.

However, because some of our accounts were recently hacked, we are unable to transfer all of our funds at this time. We have been authorized to find an overseas partner that can hold our funds and transfer them to another mule. We are willing to give you 20% of the funds we have accumulated, a total of 20,390,230,821 gil. Please be assured that this transaction is totally safe.

Unfortunately, because we can't access the funds, we need your help with transaction fees. For a small investment of 1 million gil, we can access our funds and make the transaction right away. We are looking forward to doing business with you and solicit your confidentiality in this matter.

The 20 billion gil will be placed in your delivery box within 7 days of you providing us with all your bank information and a nude picture of your 3rd grade teacher. You can expect your share of the 20 billion within 30 days after we've made the transaction and verified your account by logging into it and looking at all of your gear and items. Thank you very much for your attention in this matter.

                              Yours faithfully.
