That's easily 100-200 hours of fishing.
It's really not that hard and is well worth the effort put in of 4 hours a day of fishing. If you fish everyday for 4 hours, you can get the Lu Rod in about 3 1/2 to 4 months. With the old fishing system, it took 6 hours a day everyday for 6 months.

You can turn around and make a crazy amount of gil after you obtain Lu Rod. I've already made well over double my investment for it and I've only had it since August. I've only really used it to make gil for a couple of months. I helped my wife get her Lu Rod not long after I got mine. I ended up fishing most of her moats. So, all I did for a couple of months was fish moats.

Like I said before, it possible to make 100k a day with the fish I NPC. That's 700k a week. I think that beats the 48k a day you'd make AHing moats. Shalls and Nebs don't even come close to it. I used to fish those for gil way back, so I know. At least when it comes to putting them on AH and waiting for them to sell.

However, it's not a great pure moneymaker because you could do better with other crafts or farming. My point was that fishing is perfect for bots because they aren't able to maximize profit like players, so sitting in one spot reeling in lvl 50+ fish with lvl 1 skill for hours on end after they pos-hacked their way to SSG allows them to make the most gil they can.
How could you do better with other crafts after you get Lu Rod when you'd only need a lure and not even need to run around to get materials to fish? If anything, farming is the one that doesn't even hold a candle to fishing at your level of the craft.

I strongly suggest you reconsider your thinking on that rod. The Ebisu is the one that you could consider not worth the time. The Lu is a goldmine. I don't see how you can't understand making 100k with fish you NPC is totally better than fish or crafting or even farming anything and have to wait after putting it on the AH. The only way to make those better than it is to being able to make the big ticket items and such.

It took me 4 years to finally get that rod. I went on and off with it until I decided to go all out and fished my brains out of 2 months. I feel like an idiot because I didn't do it sooner. Like I said earlier, I already made back the 1.5mil investment I put into it and doubled it.

In Nashmau, the bots there use a rig to catch the shall shell counterparts. That rig they use is able to hook all the fish in that area. They use Halcyon Rods. Those rods will break on anything else besides the shalls, so they let go of anything else they hook. That also counts to their fatigue for the day. I don't think they make all that much. It just makes things annoying for me since it seems like it can affect my bite rate. It's nothing different from them botting NM's and such.

You still haven't explained how crafting or farming is better. I can tell you how taking the time to get a Lu Rod and fishing in Nashmau is better.

Man, I made this too long. By the way, if you do consider getting the Lu Rod, go fish in Nashmau with a shrimp lure. NPC all the fish you catch, you won't regret it.

Before that update I used to place leaping lizard boots in AH for 125 gill and get back a lot of gill. Earth staff, Fire staff I put it all in the auction house and sell it for 3 gill.
it's risky for me but worth it.

You could lvl 1-75 in that amount of time. 4 hours a day for 3.5 months is a heck of a lot of time for no immediate return on that investment.

I don't think 25k an hour is a crazy amount of gil. Here's an example of a crazy amount of gil: When your cooking is lvl 90, buy Land Crab Meat for 3k/stack on the AH (I just bought 12 stacks for this price yesterday). Synth into Pet Food Delta. Sell to vendor. Profit = ~6k per stack of meat. You can synth 10 stacks in an hour easily, that's 60k in 1 hour's work. Oh yea and you don't need to spend 4 hours a day for 3.5 months with no profit in order to do this. That's just one example I saw, and no doubt you can make even crazier gil if you make stuff that's in high demand on the AH.

I suspect most people don't play this game to craft. If you don't want to do anything but craft, fishing is great then you can spend 100% of your playtime fishing and obtaining the LuShang and eventually the Ebisu. It's your own little mini-game. But if you like to level, kill NM's, merit, do Assaults, Besieged, Campaign, etc. then you'd probably be much much better off leveling another craft that earns you more gil/hour.

Wait why would it take you longer before the fatigue patch? If you ask me just clicking enter every time I caught something was allot quicker then having to tire it out. Of course I am only in my 40's but still.

I actually have 2 Lu Shang fishing rods. The first one was actually easier for me to obtain. The second one I actually farmed and bought most my carps because it was taking me a little bit longer to fish them up. .

Nin75, Bst75. Drk61, War61, Rdm40, All other jobs are 37. All 3 starting city missions completed. All Zilart missions completed. All CoP missions completed. TouA completed.

Because you didn't hook a fish nearly every time. You could go 10 casts in a row without a fish, for example.

This right here is what stops me from caring about fishing, even though I kind of enjoy it. When I started fishing about 3-4 years ago the pinnacle of fishing money making, or so I thought, was catching high level fish on the ferry with your LuShang's. That sounds cool and fun and something to look forward to as a way of making gil. Over time, though, high level fishing has degraded to fishing the same old lvl 50 bot-ridden fishing spots, just with a better rod. To me, that's a massive turn-off. Leveling fishing and obtaining the rod takes a crapload of effort and there should be some kind of payoff beyond just more gil/hour at the same location. If I just want more gil/hour I can take up other crafts as I have already said. Plus the bots are disgusting and a huge insult to real fishermen. When I went to SSG for a quest the other day I was so mad that they are allowed to so blatantly cheat without immediate repurcussions.

But were talking fatigue vs no Fatigue. So in essence being able to fish whenever you want, wherever you want vs limiting to area an length.

Really S.E doesn't care to much about fishing bots. They even implemented the Fish Bot rule. Being you can bot as long as you were present at your computer. They are everywhere and they are very obvious.

I hear you, I remember thinking Nebs+Lu Shang = $$$. Then you have the factor everyone else doing it. Plus most of them were boting. Eventually it stalled out. Really I don't fish much anymore. I seem to be able to multi task and make $$$ faster then I would just fishing. I just wish I was at that point where I could fish and LFG with no problems.

Yeah, you just need to get your cooking to 90 in order to profit. It also doesn't help if there isn't any crab meat on the AH. I don't know about you, but on my server, we're better off farming it. My wife skills up cooking with the fish that she catches. The sushi she makes ends up being less than just turning the fish in when you factor in all the ingredients and such. You have to make a big investment to either power level your cooking to 90 (either NPCing everything you make or dropping it), or wait to sell on the AH. Now, fishing and cooking go hand in hand. You could easily level it while fishing. That's what my wife does.

We fish while we seek for a party. If we get one, great! If not, well, we're still making our gil and don't have to run around gathering materials. When we wanna do something else, we do it. We know we're still making a steady income and don't have to worry about inventory space and such.

The fish I'm fishing will sustain me till 99. The ferry isn't the only place with high level fish anymore. I will admit that it does take a lot of time to level fishing itself. It is the slowest craft to level after all. It is also the cheapest to level as well. The bots aren't just plaguing fishing. They are also in crafting and other things too. That screws things up too. I've leveled other crafts, it's not all that easy when some materials aren't available or when you run out.

The bots are an insult to everyone, not just us fishermen. I do wish something could be done right then and there when it's so obvious. At least like what they used to do when fish botting with real players and RMT was a big problem. I did notice that after I got my Lu Rod and went to skill up with it in Nashmau, bots had Lu Rods as well. Then STF banned 'em and now they have to take a cut in profits. It really does seem like they are on their last leg.
