Hello All,

So, I know everyone has seen you average "How can I make money?" or "I need Gil!!!" threads. This won't be that. I was thinking that since the members of this site are pretty evenly spread across servers, AH secrets wouldn't be stolen. Please post anything that has worked for you in the past, as a compiliation of gil-making AH tricks might be a nice thread. See my stuff below...

My first "scam": Like a drug-runner... Object is this: Find out what items are not available at either the AH or a NPC in Jueno, and can be bought at a NPC somewhere else. For example, I used to run Banishes from Bastok to Jueno. I could buy them for a few hundred gil in Basty and sell them for 3-5K in Jueno @ 1-2 per day. Other examples, I used to run certain threads from Windy and certain ores from Basty.

Secondary: Trick supply... (In Jueno) Find out what items are common synth items and can be purchased at a Jueno NPC. Those items often go for much higher at the AH and can sell relatively quickly. Example, you wouldn't believe the profit margin to be made on Distilled Water in Jueno. Many people would rather drop the gil than look it up!!!

Third: Corner the Market... (Can get your account in trouble if abused.) Buy low, sell high. If you are trying to sell a large amount of Yellow-Globes for 3K a stack and they are going for 2.5 at the time.... Buy them until the price is at 3K and then put yours up for sale!!!

Cost: A little walking/choco time and a little investment cash...

Buy low, sell high.

That pretty much sums up any financial "trickery" at the AH.

Occasionally, though, when I am feeling pernicious and naughty, I will buy stacks of certain items and then sell the singles for a profit. Or buy things that I know sell to a higher price to vendors than their going rate at the AH. Then I skitter off to a corner of Jeuno to giggle in glee and home no one notices my devilry.

All the gil I used to make was from LL; a long long time ago.
Lately I've made a few mil off of Devil Manta, but I haven't gotten a skin in weeks now. (On rag they are ~400k+ each)

I used to farm eyes for the optical hat. Only Bsts had the resourses to farm them. But since the turbans were introduced, add in low demand, and allot more crafters and farmers the profit vs time vs risks isn't there anymore.

Fishing. Can still make 48k a day off of selling Moat Carps in the AH. Just doing the quest over time, after turning them in will net you 100k.

Also, there are fish that sell great to the NPC or guild. That makes it so you can bypass the AH and not have to wait for your fish to sell. The higher ones, you can make 100-150k a day.

I know you can still make $$ off of moats but I thought S.E eliminated the return from selling fish to vendors. I know I used to do that all the time in LA terrine when skilling up. When I was full id just warp back to Selbina.

No, they just cut it in half, due to being able to catch the fish faster than the original fishing system. Some of them still sell quite well to an NPC. Which is why RMT fish bots are still so active (Shall Shells for 400g a pop anyone?). The fish I catch are 600-700g a piece to an NPC. Check the fishing databases for the price to an NPC and cut that in half. That's how much they go for nowadays.

All my attempts to do well at the AH are impeded by only being able to have 7 items up at once. It's less of an issue 30+ but from 1-20 my bank is clogged with stacks of crystals/beehive chips/silk thread/bat wings/etc.

Fishing works great for bots because they don't have to actually be there. If you were a real player though your gil/hour would be pretty substandard. There's lots of things you can cook and sell to a vendor for profit at a higher rate than you can catch fish even if they all sold instantly at the AH.

I kind of resent you saying I'm not a real player... It's pretty insulting that you'd call out legit fishers like that. As a matter of fact, the bots can hamper bite rates, which makes hitting fatigue take longer than it should.

If you make over 100k profit a day for cooking everyday without having to buy any materials, good for you then. If you could enlighten us as to what you could simply cook and sell to an NPC vendor for more than 100k worth of fish in a single day, that would be super.

Fishing has always been the stable way of making gil. You can basically profit on whatever fish you are targeting for skill ups.

I never said all fishers were bots. I said that it's only truly profitable for bots because real players can do other crafts more profitably. I have fishing at 55 myself and looking at the AH prices I really don't see the ability to make more than 25-30k an hour not counting travel time. Even if I had Lu Shangs, which takes at least a 1.5 million gil investment I wouldn't make much more. You should do fishing because it's fun, which it sort of is. The blatant botting seriously takes away from that fun though.

I never did get fishing high. I tried it on my main char before the fatique update and after. An it was always very slow. I still can not figure out why I would get practically no skill ups when I am targeting a fish in my lvl range. I am 40 and I can't get a skill on a fish thats 42-45 is nuts.

As for what I was targeting I tried to sell them on thr A.H which took forever. I tried to craft them and sell them on the A.H which took forever. SO in the end I just vendored them off.

It only comes down to if you want to just drop the money for the rod in the AH, or fish for 10k moats for a few months.

I consider myself a fisherman. I fish because I love it. I just so happen to make a ton of gil doing it at the same time. Without even spending any gil, besides a 100g entry fee sometimes.

The point I was making was NPC vending the catches, not putting them in the AH and NPCing them is so much more profitable with certain fish. No taxes, no waiting for it to sell. I do agree that bots can take the fun out of fishing.

@little ninja: It's currently 84. A few months ago it was 56. It can be slow sometimes, just keep at it. You can PM if you want any help with stuff.

It only comes down to if you want to just drop the money for the rod in the AH, or fish for 10k moats for a few months.

Whether you actually expend the gil or not, it still costs that much. It's money you could have had by selling the fish on the AH, or fishing for more profitable things (shalls shells or nebimonites for example). It takes 833 stacks of moats to get that rod. That's easily 100-200 hours of fishing.

Good, you fish because you enjoy it and make some money as well. That's how it should be. I used to do that as well till I hit the LuShang-only wall @55 and decided it simply wasn't worth it. However, it's not a great pure moneymaker because you could do better with other crafts or farming. My point was that fishing is perfect for bots because they aren't able to maximize profit like players, so sitting in one spot reeling in lvl 50+ fish with lvl 1 skill for hours on end after they pos-hacked their way to SSG allows them to make the most gil they can.
