Re: What type are you ? Seeker or maker of party?

I seek because I know I don't know the areas well enough to decide where to go.

And every party I've made seems to suck, well, for EXP anyway. I'll do mission parties because if I don't no one will and I try to know what's going on with a mission.
I use a Mac because I'm just better than you are.

Seeker, both for the reasons Ellipses and Jarre named. But yeah, screw sitting in WG for hours. I can always find something productive to do to fill the time. Campaign is awesome for that lately.

Lucky for me, with the particular jobs I have leveled, I get to be:

        C) The XP Diva - I spend maybe 10 minutes tops lfg if I flag up, and if the party is bad I can just leave, because it'll only take me another 10 minutes to find a new one, if I'm not already getting invites while in a party.

Unfortunately I never have time to XP anymore with LS events and playing w/ g/f now that she just started the game, so I get all my XP/Merits farming triggers or doing Campaign.

That's pretty much my stance. I won't make a pt for a lvl range I don't know where to lvl. Unless i'm comfortable with the areas and know good spots for exp I'll be perfectly happy farming/questing/crafting/pankemoning/trying to solo while lfg.

Used to be a seeker, because I did my time in other games leading both groups and raids and prefer to just kick back and play now. As a WHM, I never had too much problem getting a group.

Now though, I have to switch roles and become the maker, because my g/f seems to be enjoying the game and I have to find people to join us so we can keep playing.

Re: What type are you ? Seeker or maker of party?

I tend to make parties more than anything, unless I actually have some farming/fishing/crafting/quests to do, then I seek until I'm done with those.

And for you guys that say you don't know where to go...just use campsitarus? That's all I use for camp locations and it works out most of the time, saying you don't know where to go is just kinda a cop out imo. :x

I like making. When I was in Valkurm Dune, I made most of my parties. Even though as WHM it's never a problem to get invites. It's a good way to learn about different class roles at the early stages of the game.

Honestly, never even knew about that site, so I never used it. But still, there's always the fact that reading about something and actually experiancing something are two different things. So again, unless I know the area well and have a good understanding of the basic pop points, wandering radius and aggro range, general terrain for pulling/camping/roving, and any potential risks of the area, I won't lead a pt there.

Re: What type are you ? Seeker or maker of party?

I vastly prefer to be the party leader in pickup parties (hell, even in LS parties!). But, like Ellipses, I refrain from forming parties if I feel unfamiliar with the camps/mobs in my exping range. I'm comfortable with forming parties up through lvl 55 (knowing multiple camp spots and target mobs), so if I'm lvling a job in that range, I'll first check to see if I can form a decent party with the jobs seeking. If not, I'll stick up my flag and spam /sea all inv ##-## until the jobs pop or I get an invite.

FFXI-atlas and all the EXP camp listings in the world won't make up for inexperience.

For example, I had a friend a long time ago, managed to take me to some of the oddest camps with party combinations that would make MacGuyver proud, and blow other parties away with the XP/hr. Even trying to find good players and use the same places again, it never worked out quite as well as when he managed it. He always seemed to have a knack for knowing exactly what was needed and where to take it. I, on the other hand, could list half a dozen places to go at a given level, but wouldn't actually be good at deciding which one is worth time.

Campsitarus is a great start, but you need actual knowledge to back it up. I can't stand it when someone tries to say "We should level on X because site Y says so." And that's the basic thing: I'm only going to be a party leader if I can be the kind of party leader I'd want to follow.

                              D) Solo (recently duo) and try to avoid parties unless I'm in a very good mood, in which case I'd seek and/or try to co-build a party depending on people looking.

I tend to use the /sea all ... to see if partying at a certain job/lvl is doable before changing jobs-gear and lfp. I look for 2 things, whats seeking and how many parties my lvl are already in action, thus the possablility starting a party or getting invited into one thats already in action. If neither looks good I skip the idea and do something with a lvl 75 job. I prefer making my own party over getting invited because I tend to get more time and xp playing from a fresh party then a most likely tired one I replace into. I spend half my time that I am trying to join party seeking a decent starter set of players and the other half flagged and afkish. Probably 75% of parties I get into I was invited, maybe 80%.
