  • New in FinFanOnline

    Hi,

I started playing one week ago. What I haven't found out yet is, how can I show the map on the top right border like in other online games (UltimaOnline/WorldOfWarcraft) while I am walking.
Cause i wanna now in which direction I am walking and I don't wanna lookup the map every time with entering: /map.

    Thank You

    You don't.
The game is dated and simply lacks a lot of features that would make the lives of players easier.
The same goes for simple things like [always-present] cooldown timers, buff durations, etc--
You're forced to rely on "illegal" third-party programs to have access to such things.

Wow, I didn't even know that you could type "/map"...

      You've had it easy!

There is a compass in the lower left, other than that you're screwed.

And it has nothing to do with FFXI being dated and everything to do with the interface being overall insufficient for many things.

It's not that bad. You've just got to learn the map.

Calling it FinFan makes me want to hurt you.

/em doesn't like maps or clutter in my UI.

You don't have to have a global cooldown on the screen. You can always make an /recast macro set for your JA. Just hit it and it will tell you your cooldown. For my RNG, I made a pull macro that follows it up with a recast of my JA so I know when they are ready.

Agreed to a point-- one of the reason I love FFXI compared to other MMOs is because, what they DID do on the interface, they got right. I'm sure it's because it's a console MMO, but having static menus is the best thing ever. Some people might like juggling around windows and resizing them and such to get the perfect UI, I like how FFXI had everything in it's place, and didn't make you stuff your GUI full of inventory and chat and NPC and log windows in order to get anything done.

On the other hand, it can't be denied that FFXI left out a few major things that would've been nice, like a significantly longer macro system, minimap, TP and *P% display.

Haha, that's only because menus already took up 70% of the screen on the PS2 version, especially during combat.

you can't...you can hit "map" on the menu to see the map if you have it for the area...other than that you have the transparent compas in the corner...

Having the map seperate means you have to learn the areas. As for the recast timers etc. you can add a macro in like for provoke on my pld I have it set as..

                        /p <paladin> <provoke> <t>
                        /ja "Provoke" <t>
                        /wait 30
                        /echo <provoke> ready

The echo line if your in party situations I have it set as /p <Paladin> <Provoke> <ready> so DD and mages know they can use higher hate skills or magic as I can then provoke to hate spike off them.

The on screen timers etc you are used too make you lazy and makes it too easy, learn to know when to use things, properly, conserve certain abilities and learn it, not have somethign that tells you everything. I'm sorry but games like WoW hold your hand through everything, this game is tough, its meant to be tough, live with it there is no hand holding here.

And when you use another macro or your chat log is very busy you miss it.
                          ------------------------------------------
This has nothing to do with hand holding-- FFXI's UI is lacking. That's it.

                            ^^ Agreed

I know a lot of people want to say ffxionline is for the "hardcore" players and that everything is done with this purpose of making it tough, but that's just not the case. A lot of things simply weren't done right. FFXI is by no means the perfect game and neither is it a game that is the way it is because it's made tough for the hardcore players in mind. It is what it is.

And some of them are actually "done right" when realizing that they were done for a console running at 640x480 and the expectation that the user is navigating the UI with a PS2 controller. I mean really, where are you going to put some of these extra UI indicators you want on a 640x480 screen? They're trying to keep the abilities of the interface the same on every platform so that console users aren't at a disadvantage, especially since console users are a significant portion of their player base.
