If I had to make a guess, FFXI probably has at least five more years in it before it starts looking and feeling too old-fashioned and rusty to attract new players despite having some unique features in the MMO world. Even then, it'll die slowly unless SE makes some stupid moves. -- Pteryx

Maybe, but FFXI is seriously a different game. I mean who'd known that by making partying and leveling take longer then most normal games, having a transparent compass that's sorta... useless, and other challenging stuff would actually make the game more entertaining! I've tried so many other games that sure, are less time consuming, but even today I'm being drawn back to re-sub.

Also to whoever was wondering why people post these "how long till the apocalypse of vanadiel" messages, I think it's because since FFXI is 5 years old they'd think that most players have given up and moved on to more easier and I guess "better graphic" games, which to be honest this game has yet to make my crapped up computer lag and it has detailed graphics. Though since we got so many veterans coming back and taking breaks I think it'll stay online pratically forever--heck it's final fantasy, ONLINE *angels come down from heaven*

Yeah really, what is wrong with Remora? Maybe I just don't know any better because I've never been on another server, but Remora seems fine. You have your morons, but what server doesn't have them?

I don't see an "Apocalypse of Vana'diel" anytime soon, just as I don't see an "Apocalypse of Norrath" anytime soon. As of now, the two oldest MMO's, Ultima Online and EverQuest, are still in service. So far, they've both kept going thanks to a very strong brand loyalty. The same could be said for this game, as well as the newer ones once they hit the 5-year point.
