How much longer?

    How much longer?

    What are some peoples opinions on how much longer this game is going to last? If i get it(for moms house rather than dads) near the beggining of next year will it still be running long enough to get a good bit of things done? i mean i dont expect it to go next year but i just wanna know when some people think the servers will close.
    Also on that subject a while back ago i heard something about server combining. Do you think they will start combining servers when people stop playing before the game actually stops?

    The servers will be up as long as people are paying. Everquest still has servers running.

        But about the servers combining after loseing a significant amount of players, would/could they do that?

          yes probly, but I am thanking it would have to be like less then 500 players or something. I doubt that is going to happen any time soon though.

            FFXI will be around for a long time. It hasn't had a noticeable population drop in the past few years, and that counts servers being added and people migrating about. If there were a significant drop in population, SE can merge servers, and there is something like 40 servers right now, so they would last plenty of time before they got down to the point where it was no longer worth it.

            This combined with a steady steam of expansion packs about every year and half means FFXI will give you plenty to do for years to come, if you enjoy it.

            Long story short, don't worry about it-- if you want to do it, you'll have more than enough time.

              Ok so then there are gonna be more Expansions? From what i understood/heard on some other sites I figured this was the last one.
              Which is why i was wondering how much longer it would last.
              Is it an assured thing that there will be more Expansions?

                People said that about Chains of Promithia and Treasures of Aht Urghan too.

                Noone knows for sure how long SE will continue to make expansions. As long as there's a market for them they'll probably keep on coming.

                  I do hope there will be more.
                  I want to be able to have this in a place that i wont be restricted by time like i am at my dads. Theres too much to do to only play it at dads.

                        It also depends on SE's plans too. Sometimes companies will sell their MMO's to another company so that they can put their full resources to a new developing MMO. It is highly unlikely that SE would do that with a Final Fantasy game. So if they wanted to concentrate their efforts on a new MMO, then I could see them closing servers. It's highly unlikely but SE has done some things that have made people go {Huh?} in the past. Imo, FFXI will be around for quite some time.

                          Combining servers is a bad bad bad bad idea, it may or may not happen, but it's bad...Hades/Remora getting combined with a friendly server...? lol......

                          Anyway, FFXI will be around for a pretty long time, unless the internet dies out that everyone is suspecting.

                            I think it'll be around for a long time. I play on Shiva, and the population right now is very reasonable. Which means there's still adequite interest in the game.

                            I don't think FFXI will go anywhere, until the next FF MMORPG happens
