  • Starting A new, somwhere else.(hopefully)

Ok well im plannin on gettin the 360 for X-mas and playing at my moms house which im at most of the time rather than playing at dads like i have been.
Ive been tryin to get all the info i need on money for router, expansion packs, and keyboard for 360, and i think ive got everything set except...

To play the game before you get the expansion packs you need the first disc to download the game and to download PlayOnline right? Where can i find that first disc because i've checked some places and i cant seem to find any. Anyone know specific place thats the most helpful?

Also if anyone can tell me of their experience in connecting anything. I have Road-Runner at my house and my comp is connected to a Modem (i need them to both be able to run at the same time cause of my sister). Is it hard at all to connect the modem to the router and then the comp to that and also the 360? Or pretty much, is it "See this end?, it matches this hole...so insert here." Has anyone come to any re-occuring problems that i should look out for?

And before anyone says if there is anypost already like this i couldnt find it. I'm very sorry. i may be search-illiterate. But its hard to locate one in millions of threads when not entirely sure what to search for.
    ------------------------------------------
Ok so now i know i can just get the 2008 collection and that will come with the Original game and all the expansions.
But now do any of the 360 users have any advice on what to/not to do when installing and or connecting 360 to Router and router to Modem?(im freaked that i may do it wrong) or any other advice?

The xbox version of the game comes with playonline. You'll have to buy a whole new xbox copy of the game and you'll end up with a spare set of keys for the whole set as well. I'm not sure if there's a cheaper way to go about it, a little ill atm, too dopey to really search.

As far as connecting, it is pretty much plug A -> slot B. Roadrunner's modems bind to whatever they're plugged into and ignore everything else. The only real problem you'll have (if you can call it that) is that you will need to let the modem's memory lose the current connection (sounds like a pc is plugged right in at the moment) before you can hook your router up.

    1) Unplug power from modem
    2) Unplug power from router
    3) Wait 1 minute
    4) Power up modem (lights will fiddle about as modem boots and connects to RR)
    5) Wait 1 minute
    6) Power up router (lights will fiddle about as router boots and connects through modem to RR)
    7) Wait 1 minute

Now whatever you plug into the router, providing the device (pc, xbox, whatever) is set up for an automatic connection (dynamic IP address), should be ready to go right out of the gate. Follow your router's setup instructions and you should be fine from that point on.

Depending on your router, you may have to set up some special port configuration if you want to host games or connect to games people are hosting but that won't be anything that concerns FFXI play. Just something to consider if you play another game and can't connect to or even see other people who you know are there.

I don't think it's as hard as you're expecting it to be.

Plug modem ethernet cable into router.
Run ethernet cable from router to Xbox.
      Insert game disc(s).
      Play FFXI.

There's also the Vana'del Collection 2008 that has everything you need(including Wings of the Goddess) that you can buy. It has Playonline, FFXI, ROZ, COP, TAOU and Wings.

As for routers I have this silly cheap linksys one that cost $60(It's abit clunky but it works ok with my Bellsouth/AT&T DSL). It works with nearly anything as long as it's ethernet and not USB.(USB broadband modems stink!) It took a call to linksyss to set up the first one but after it got running the router has just worked.

and yeah i'm prolly thinking its gonna be harder than it really is. But thats just kinda how i work.
