  • Campaign Experiences

Since nobody has begun a campaign thread, I shall.

For starters, you must have completed the quests to join the campaign efforts for one of the three countries. Afterwards you simply show up at an area where a battle is going on, talk to the C.A. or T.K. or which ever NPC is there and ask for an Allied Tag. A C.A. in each home nation will teleport you to/close to/near the battle for a fee of Allied Notes, but you must have first visited that zone before you can be teleported there.

I think there's a way to attack the beastman without there being a conquest campaign going on at the time. I read something about ??? points, dealing damage to them with AoE weapon skills, and recruiting freelancers to assist in destroying them. That's all the info I have.

You can find information on Conquest Ops on the FFXIclopedia, but the two that pertain most to the campaign battles are the offensive and defensive operations, which are basically participating in the offense of an area the beastman control, and the defense of an area you control. There's supposed to be some amount of progression within the operations, so you might want to try something else as well.

Occasionally you'll get back up from NPCs. They can be pretty helpful, espesially when dealing with old One-Eyed, down below. I've heard they'll heal players, but I haven't been assisted by them yet. Sometimes multiple groups will help out, but it seems random, and not based on who's attacking.

Valaineral R Davilles - The Royal Guard

Cerane I Virgaut - The Aragoneu Knights

Leonoyne - The Savage Hound Condotties

Yrvaulair S Cousseraux - The Royal Knights

Furthermore, it's possible to be attacked by multiple invading armies as seen below. When this picture was taken there were three total, two in a first wave, and a third towards the end. The battle probably lasted about forty-five minutes.

So far everybody from San d'Oria waits in Ronfaure for the battle to begin. There's little reason to go anywhere else, because it costs a lot of A.N. to get anywhere, and oftentimes the battle is either over, or close enough to it that you've wasted your A.N. getting there and back.

If you're in East Ronfaure watch out for these guys:

    One-eyed Gwojboj

He spams an over powered Battle Dance with an extremely large area of effect. He's of a very high level.

    Deathlord Rojgnoj

    Low level, casts Dread Spikes.

    Poisonhand Gnadgad

Low level, Hundred Fists attack speed... and will use Hundred Fists all the same increasing his attack speed even more.

    Re: Campaign Experiences

I thought it was funny to see Gwajboj again... but where's his RNG buddy?

Conqueror Bakgodek is another orc NM to watch out for - I saw him run past in Jugner (at flee speed), but didn't go fight him. (Is there any simple way to find out where the beastman armies are going, and when they will arrive? Perhaps that's what the recon stat/recon ops are for?)

I wonder how many other present NMs will show up in the past...

When the northlands are added, will the Dark Kindred be led by the 15 Dyamis-Xarc NMs, and/or some of the present NMs from Zvahl (Haborym etc.)? (Assuming that the Shadowlord is a mission mob only and doesn't routinely come out of the castle to lead Kindred armies...)
Defeated: Maat, Divine Might, Fenrir, Kirin, Cactrot Rapido, Xolotl, Diabolos Prime, Kurrea, 9/10 Dynamis Bosses (missing Tav), Promathia, Proto-Ultima, Proto-Omega, 4 Jailers, Apocalypse Nigh, 6/6 Nyzul Bosses
    RDM90, PLD90, DRG90, COR90, SCH90, BLU54
All Nations Rank 10, ZMs & PMs Complete, AUMs Complete, Captain, Nyzul Floor 100 (5 Weapons, 4 WS), Medal of Altana, WotG Mission 15, 1/3 Addons Complete, 9/9 Abyssea Main Quests, 6/6 Caturae

      Re: Campaign Experiences

Deathlord is scary in Jugner. On a regular hit (No berserk or anything) he did 746 damage to my SAM. Needless to say I switched from Hasso to Seigan instantly and ran for dear life XD. I later ended up tanking him after a Cure V and proceeded to lay the smack down on his ass with Y/G/K (It's amazing how strong Kasha's paralyze is o. O)

I have to ask though: How the fuck did you manage 1260 EXP in East Ron? Even without NPCs lately I can barely break 300, and I'm not exactly a slacker here. I kick ass in Campaign, so wtf gives? Doesn't help that most fights now are over in like 2 minutes since SE officially screwed Campaign Battle up (I liked it before tyvm, getting 600/600 regularly and scrambling across the Front to defend San d'Orian Sovereignty!)

        Re: Campaign Experiences

If they're running at flee speed that means they're retreating. It's funny sometimes, but it's annoying seeing your assessment points run off life that.

Best of all, in my opinion, we now have something to do while seeking for a party. The EXP from these battles is/are nothing to scoff at. Eventually the A.N. will be worth something as well.

        Continuing from above:

        Shadoweye

High level, casts high level black magic.

        Shadowhorn

High level, will use normal Taurus abilities, as well as cast high level black magic. It's possible he'll use Sleepga 2 and wipe everybody out one by one while the gigas pound on the fortifications.

        Shadowhand

High level, low HP, but can throw spells around pretty quickly. She can/will cast/spam AM that will persist through Super Jumps, just like her Cuirassiers.

Is there any way to tell when a Campaign battle is going to start in an area?

            Turn your speakers up.

The campaign map is pretty useless at the moment. It's easier to stand around in the area outside your home nation and wait for it.

You still didn't answer my question. How in the hell did you manage over 1k EXP from a battle?

Do you know how the invasion begun? I'm really reluctant to start throwing punches at an enemy fort, but I can't see any other way. Everytime I join an offensive in progress we're always battling just one enemy, as if they had pulled him away from the fort. Everybody is tagged for battle, but I'm not sure if they're auto-tagged when they pull or what. I took an offensive campaign op and I'm not sure how exactly they want me to complete it. Jumping in on somebody else's offense doesn't do the trick.

The invasion was forty-five minutes long, and included three different armies. I think everybody died at least once.

                    Re: Campaign Experiences

I really can't figure out what's the point of Campaign map if it doesn't let me know when the beastmen start to invade. If it had something similar to Besieged that would be great. I'm still seeing how it goes, my damage as RNG is only 60-70 per hit but I don't expect high numbers since these guys are Impossible to Gauge. >.>

Edit: Anyone have any idea the recommended lowest level to attempt Campaign battles? I might test it out as my Lv 65 SAM while LFPing. Too bad the wait time is <long time>. -_-

                      Re: Campaign Experiences

It shouldn't work like Besieged, because then that would suck. You'd know exactly who was attacking, when, and how many there are. It would also eliminate the need for Recon.

I'd just be happy if it wasn't so damn slow to update at the start and end of an attack. There's no reason that /cmap should say a battle is still going on five minutes after it's ended.

                        Re: Campaign Experiences

The campaign map works, you just have to check it frequently. When the sword icon appears over an area there's still a few minutes to get warped to the zone and get your allied tags before the beastman army actually arrives. I still wish there was a better way, but there is a functional way.

And I'd just like to add, Campaign = best thing evar. It's so flexible you can log on for just an hour and do campaign battles and walk away feeling like you actually accomplished something worthwhile. That kind of thing has been sorely needed in this game forever.

I know for a fact that the campaign level is much lower then Besieged. As a 71 BLM I can actually dish out good damage and play a role other then cure-spamming.

Warning: Do NOT assist NPC guards. They do not hold hate.

What would have been a super-epic legendary battle between Bakgodek, Poisonhand, Shadoweye, and One-eyed and the forces of Ronfaure turned into an epic disappointment because the players couldn't actually do anything. There weren't enough of us there to even form a party, but we had NPC allies all over the place. They did all the work, and we mostly died.

Furthermore, you can not begin offensive battles yourself. You must wait for them to somehow begin all on their own. More on this later...
