    That is seriously the best analogy I've seen for FFXI vs WoW (/other MMOs)

      Enough with the uneducated opinions on WoW please. There are enough stupid people in the world without this thread needing to add to them.

        Sad for me to say, I've dove back into WoW <.<; Last time on Europe realms, this time on US. Still no difference, but, it gives me something to do while lfp or not having enough time to do anything lengthy that time would advise again v.v; <.<; But its more on curiousity for the Defias series of quests <.< >.> Don't shoot me! ;_;
        But yeah.. upgrading my US trial gave me 30 days free 40 from the 10-day trial i had a few months ago <.< and about the same monthly fee as FFXI....
        <.<; A nice new feature they had since the last time i played... build in voice chat... hell, they know how to appeal... well in terms of service, not graphics <.< >.> ffxi > wow in graphics, with exception to seeing human chicks in robes or night elf chicks in this gnoll harness i nabbed o_O <.< >.>
        Duhn hurt me! *hides from the pitch fork die hard FFXI players*

          Hardly an uneducated opinion I work in a call center full of gamers. I couldn't avoid exposure to FFXI, WOW, Everquest exc if I tried. I've listened to, compared with and made characters with different people for different games. I mearly pointed out the strengths each system went for. FFXI is more in the lines of having to work hard for everything which takes time and can discourage some. While WOW is good for a quick start and being able to easy setup getting into the action quicker. The reason for the analogy is I consider a homecooked meal to be more prep-work, but more satisfying than fast food, but there will always be more fastfood orders because it is quicker and easier not requiring the same investment of time. Is that specifically good or bad or simply a reality? I might also add Everquest was actually a harder game than FFXI and went beyond the level of work I want. Starwar's galaxies before the infamious update was the best setup for players making an imprint on the game envirnment. Whichever game you find more fun is up to your style. Some of us like to struggle through so we feel we've earned everything others want to pick up and blast through a low level zone, some like to grind drops to give npc's to complete quests, while others enjoy slaughtering monsters for experience instead and still others just want to explore storyline. Whatever you like feel free, but I saw nothing inacurate in my assesment.

          Akashimo we're getting the stake and fire out ^..^
          My roomate keeps a current Hunter character for times when FFXI is doing updates or he feels like a change. It can be a good way to blow off steam when one game or the other has ticked you off. You play the other for a bit. Ultimatly it's still an MMO and aside from styles and difficulty levels they all play the same. (create character, gind monsters, get stronger)

          I do wish FFXI advertised more like WOW does to keep fresh faces comming through it's generally nice to keep a certain amount of new people with fresh ideas flowing through. Helps keep us from getting too stagnent with our ideas when fresh minds make us re-examine occasionally.

            I've played WoW, and I'm of the same opinion of Theyaden here.

            My RL friends who play WoW are such douche bags too <.<;

              There are three distinct games within WoW. The levelling up to 70 game, which is a fun, easy to enter environment that involves thousands of quests and many varying locations and has numerous peaks and troughs of enjoyment. The PvP game which comes in tiers as you level and carries on to max level enabling you to gear your toons up in a way other than raiding. Then there is the raiding game that starts at 70 and which the majority of the game, devs included, is focussed on. Most people who say WoW is piss simple and lacks any real depth usually never make it past the levelling stage and give up when they hit the 40's and the pace tends to slow down before picking up again mid 50's.

              Your whole analogy about a home-cooked meal vs a burger just shows you have no real understanding of what you're talking about if you're trying to insinuate that WoW is easier and for the instant gratification crowd. Have you even played WoW and if so what was the level or your toon before you quit?

                Re: FFXI Needs To Be Advetised More

                I find it slow in the starting levels as it is, first char 19 on wow-europe, current 16 us, and 2 more at 7 <.>™. Nothing but exp and quests and Dead Mines. Kind of gets boring how simple things are, like rdm/whm main heal boring that makes you angry. Though, Warsong is a bit fun, going in dieing, capture a flag, die, try to stealth back for take 2 and sprint back to silvermoon base while avoiding hunters and warlocks @_@;

                  I'm with Grizzlebeard here. My god, some of the stupidity being spewed all over this thread is amazing. But that happens with every single WoW topic on this forum, so it's not surprising. What IS surprising is that people are still doing it.

                  Different games appeal to different people. Stop wasting your time telling yourself and others that you are playing the more enjoyable game. It's all subjective.

                    Re: FFXI Needs To Be Advetised More

                    heh. at least your game store know what FFXI was...
                    I live in Tasmania, Australia.
                    I recently decided to get back into FFXI
                    I had misplaced my discs so went to electronics boutique - Game - Jb hi-fi - and a couple of smaller computer game stores...EB the biggest store here claimed the vanadiel collection 2008 did not exist, Game said they have not and never have stocked it and JB knew of it but didn't order in games.....

                    That is freaking ludicrous.
                    Anyway so i had to ebay a copy for Xbox & for Pc.
                    PC one arrived a two days ago and ive been playing quiet happily (Remora server "Totem" 18RDM/9BLM )
                    still waiting on the Xbox version.. 2 almost 3 weeks now...

                    Also ^to the post above me a few... i have a 69 rouge on Peranolde they are both entirely different styled mmo's but in my opinion after playing both for a reasonable amount of time FFXI can be intimidating at first (controls are whack for one) but is FAR FAR FAR more rewarding and enjoyable as far as storyline goes, quests, crafting, and i supose endgame which i am yet to experience even. WoW is very accessible to new players controlls simple but can become complex (but the stoyline is god awful and lacking in much at all). & as the southpark parody showed so well... 95% of the game is spent grinding and the other 5% is spent regenerating

                              This thread was about how difficult it was for some people to obtain expansion packs in order to play and not a discussion about WoW.

                                anyone whos played a ff game would go out looking for ffxi, anyone whos played a game would likely have heard about WoW somewhere.

                                but to put it simply, WoW wins because Mr T advertised for them
