  • FFXI Needs To Be Advetised More

yea so i went and got my copy of WoTG today at Best Buy, and they didn't even have it on the shelves or anything so i had to ask someone and they found a copy in the back. Frankly im dissapointed in the ammount of attention FFXI is given in stores. Maybe if they like just displayed the game it would get more buys, but no, you have to perposefully by hunting for the game in order to get it, and maybe that's why there aren't as many ppl playing as b4. I mean if you were just strolling around in the store you're not going to see it like you would WoW of course because it is advertised like crazy. yeh tell me what u think.

:O can't wait to play WotG but im on vacation right now XD oh well, at least by the time i start playing they will have ironed out some of the kinks

Ya tell me about it, S-E really needs to advertise XI alot more often. I rarely see any commercials for it, let alone magazine ads. Word-of-mouth can only go so far.

Love the game to death, but your average MMORPG player would probably find FFXI "unappealing" because of the amount of dumbing down WoW has done to the genre.

      I remember when I bought FFXI (a few months back) ^^ - The Vanadiel Collection box was hidden away in a little obscure corner in my local Gamestop. I actually had to ask for a worker to help me locate it because it was so well hidden ; ;

Re: FFXI Needs To Be Advetised More

When i was hunting for wings, before finding out the shipment was delayed, most stores had one or two copies on sheves of the 2007 vana'diel collection for the pc, nothing on the ps2. One Target had a slot on the shelf open for WotG on ps2 section for when they came in. Compare that to the all hit releases on the pc games, plenty of room for WoW, Warcraft, CoH, Transformers, but such tiny space FFXI gets, its a wonder we even get new players. Honestly, I've never seen an FFXI commercial, and most of the time with their normal games, Kingdom Hearts was more Heavily Advertised than any FF game.

ppl keep saying I'm wrong on this, but I seriously find FFXI's biggest detriment is the time sink.

I know a lot of people who tried the game and left it for WoW because you can do so much more on your own and generally in less time (Like hitting the level cap... - .- )

It fits perfectly well in our gimmie-gimmie- instant gratification society we have today...

There should be more that we can do on our own and less time into hitting the level cap, at least on my server, there are alot of ppl that dont help you unless it benefits them.

Re: FFXI Needs To Be Advetised More

              What people don't realize is...
I can level faster in FFXI then WoW while do more overtime under a casual game play time as normal WoWer.

What is sad for me is the people @ bestbuy didn't even know FF11 is an online game... they are like "I think SE skipped 11 for some reason"

Funny how they have that in BIG words in the "november 22 release list"

                Its probably big in japan.

I've counted like 5 people in Portugal who play FFXI. I know there's bound to be more but I haven't seen them.

Yeah, SE needs to advertise this game more. It's big, got a large and exisitng community, and content for ages.

This again? What do you people think advertising does? It's not some magic bullet that cures all your ills.

FFXI is a franchise that is very well known among those that want to play games like it. All SE has to really do is announce when the next on is being released and word of mouth does it from there.

WoW, by the way, doesn't do a lot of advertising targeting new people either. I rarely see a TV ad for it unless there is a new expansion showing up. They do game magazines but that fails compared to word of mouth. WoW got a huge base because of the pre-existing fans of Warcraft, not because of advertising.

My understanding is that WoW has a huge subscription base because it's fun, and easy to pick up (and put down). The Warcraft series may had a huge following which readily translated into initial subscribers for WoW, but if the game had sucked, word of mouth would've destroyed it. (As you said, the word of mouth is the most powerful form of advertisement--positive or negative.)

Final Fantasy XI is more engrossing, though, in part because it requires so much effort to get into it. (Yes, we're addicts, and we're screwed.) While I agree that normal advertisement won't be cost effective in increasing the player base, I refuse to accept that there's nothing reasonable S-E can do to gain better mind share for this game. (It's the principles of things--everything can be improved.)

word of mouth only goes so far, eventually it has to reach other groups of ppl somehow and if not by advetising at least finding a spot on the shelf a Gamestop or Best Buy so you could see it when ur looking through a store

Mhurron, you pointed out exactly the problem. FFXI is only known to people that play MMOs.

WoW, on the other hand, is known to practically everyone. Partially because it is so popular, yes, but partially because it does advertise much, much more.

The problem is, pretty much like you said, when something new comes out for FFXI, FFXI players know about it, and maybe a few people that were already interested in FFXI or used to play it, or someone who happens to walk by an expansion pack at a store that actually has remaining copies, but that's about it.

How can FFXI keep up with WoW....they have William Shatner >.> in a commercial saying how he likes to play his Shaman. Before that WoW co-op advertised with Toyota's tundra...

Personally I would like to see FFXI advertised more. It doesn't get the attention it deserves. But that's all in the mind and money of SE.
