Does the Vanadiel collection 2008 come with the HDD or not?

if not, then I would have to buy FFXI with HDD then buy the other expansions

    No it doesn't.

It's meant for PS2 users who already have it, or people who own a 20 or 60 GB model of the PS3 (both discontinued btw)

For the PS2, it didn't sell that great and they decided to nitch it. For the PS3, Sony are just being assholes, not giving players the choice they want.

It wasn't that ffxi didn't sell for the PS2, but because Sony discontinued support for the HDD people are kinda SOL.

              because people weren't buying it.

Sony cut out a lot of the HDD features that Japan users enjoy (piracy issues), and it was expensive at the time too (like $140 here...) and since FFXI was the only thing that came with it, it just didn't sell.

Zepp3: Actually they would sell a lot more consoles if they wouldn't overcharge for their better versions.

I mean, compare the 20GB to the 60GB. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the 20GB was $500, and the 60GB was $600.

The additional features of the 60GB, built in Wifi and Flash Card reader, probably didn't cost Sony more than $40-50. The price of a 60GB HDD is laughable. Honestly, for as much as it costs, Sony should be shipping PS3s with 500GB hard drives.

Right, which is irrelevant now, because it was a bad idea. The pricing difference between the 40GB Bundle and the 80GB Bundle is far more reasonable. The 20GB was probably put out there at launch just so Sony could claim to have a $499 SKU out there, as was the case with the Core 360 and its $299 price point.

to anwer the OP: Nope you just have to get a fatboy PS2, the HDD+utility disk and the network adapter. It would work on PS3 systems that are backwards compatible to PS2 but Sony's dumb and they didn't fix the firmware to understand that this is an HDD compatable game..
