I visited the site because i'd like to play but i didn't quite understood sth...

1.The only way to get a code to play is by buying the game itself??

2.I have to buy all the available expansions in order to play the game?

3.Updates mean new-expansion-download? (I used to play L2 )

Plz you guys know how the whole thing works so if you don't mind explain.

1. Yes, though if you only want to try it, there is a trial package to buy for something like $3 if you can find it.

2. No, you only have to buy the base game, but why would you when that would be more expensive the buying the Vana'diel collection that has all of them. You'd need to wait for the 2008 collection to get the one that's being released today.

No, you can buy just FFXI to play, the code is in the game box.
But its pretty cheap to just buy the collection.

No, Updates are just that updates to the existing expansions. You pay for expansions, updates are free.

It works on 56k, but damn updates are slow as hell.

Ya, the starter pack is the $3 thing i said. IIRC, the starter pack is the game and all the expansions, except the one being released to day, but only has a 30 day trial code with it. If you wanted to play beyond that, you would have to buy the codes from SE.

Oh good I'm getting me the starter pack with chain of promathia and rise of zilart soon enough i managed to find it at a local e-shop

You buy the 2008 Vanna'diel collection, they make them for PC, Xbox 360 and Playsatation 2, but Playsation3 compatability is a big question mark for now. It comes with five serials, one used to create your FFXI\play online ID, and the other to activate the games.

buy the 2008 collection (49 buck something) or you end up paying 100 buck overall for all expansion.

I just ordered the starter pack and it ended up costing 19 euros
I'm gonna test it first so just in case i don't like the game (doubt it..)
