Ok, so the universe doesn't want me to play but if I install Wings but can't register it, will the servers still at least push out that last update that is required for Wings or is that also going to be tied to registration.

Yes they will. They will detect you have it installed, and do the update, leaving you only the reg to do.

Be prepared for a huge ass file check, but it will only download about 90 files.

Just started the update (though haven't actually registered Wings because of known reasons), and it's doing a 20k+ file check so far. I have to leave for work in about a half hour so I'll obviously just let it finish it's updates.

Pretty bummed though that there's a fairly low chance of me even getting to play the wings content tonight because of the BS server congestion.


Ugh. Preorder -> delay -> pickup -> can't register/play -> long ass file check -> still can't play.

I feel let down.

Everything is poor planning when you're the last to get it. This is more about angsty PC users upset that Xbox 360 and PS2 users getting there first than it is about poor planning. Sevv knee-jerked it as the NAs getting "screwed over" when 360 and PS2 NAs aren't screwed over, just NA PC gamers.

There's been very few expansions ever that didn't have bumps in the road - stop expecting there to be no bumps. ToA didn't have as many as CoP, but you can't expect it to be perfect every time when you've seen it happen before.

Oh and problems registring when everyone is trying to register at the same time? Color me shocked. You're trying to fit 10,000 pegs into a handful of holes, there's bound to be problems. Registration servers aren't usually hit all at once.

I've had the expansion for over a full day of play and have spent more time with loved ones than worrying about this. Game hasn't been live for more than 42 hours yet, you're not missing much, trust me. Hell, Arctic Wolf provided you guys a service yesterday by collecting a lot of the early info so you don't go get gouged for Vellum at the AH if you want to unlock Scholar or pull your hair out trying to find Shrouded Maws.

There's benefits to waiting and being patient.

Okay, discussion about the pros and cons of bitching aside, how does this specific bit not count as poor planning? Of course the registration servers aren't usually hit all at once... except when they release an expansion. To continue the metaphor, they knew the 10,000 pegs were coming, they should've (at least temporarily) gotten more holes.

Yes, hiccups are bound to happen. I don't blame them for the CoP debacle. Noone can control the weather, those things happen. However, delaying the PC shipment (by and large the biggest chunk of their population) because it apparently takes two days to print up stickers and put them on boxes seems a little much. Ofcourse I still don't understand how they haven't gotten better servers for the patches so you're not waiting a day+ to download it.

And yes, I blame them for Thanksgiving. I'm sure you could find a way for feudal Japan being responsible for religious intolerance in Europe, thereby making the Pilgrims cross the Atlantic and encounter hardships in America.
