    Re: FFXI in Wine.

WINE is an implementation of the Win32 API for UNIX and X11 platforms. It includes an object loader for Windows executables (.exe) and libraries (.dll), a native implementation of a system registry, and native implementations of many important Win32 libraries, as well as the ability to substitute provided .dll libraries where useful.

The primary purpose of WINE is to allow easy porting of Win32 applications to UNIX/X environments, a secondary purpose is to allow the execution of Win32 executables in a UNIX/X environment.

In short, it attempts to provide the common programming interface used by Windows programmers on an OS other than Windows, allowing programs written for Windows to be used.

also, lern2read. I explained it rather clearly, and gave plenty of information on where you could go or what you could search to learn more.

      So, did anyone have success?

Directx 9 support was not listed in the patch details, are you sure it was even released with this patch?

I had heard it was, although I have since read it hasn't. Should've figured they were just talking out of their ass.

Still, might as well stir up interest so people will be around to test it when DX9 is implemented.

It wouldn't surprise me if the DX update is included in the Wings expansion, ie you actually have to pay for it since it might drop some lower video cards as no longer supported.

That was my understanding, too. I was also wondering if they already changed some of the code and that might be responsible with the game being so sluggish (in addition to the usb crap).

I didnt experience any lag with usb kb/mouse plugged in while using SE-windower. Worked fine for me, the color was kinda dull but thats about it.

My whole computer slowed to a crawl after starting the update last night, and didnt fix itself until I restarted today. Ofcourse my desktop is a heaping pile of shit and that could very well be the problem.

Last we heard was they hoped to have both the Windower and DX9 ready for Wings. Windowed mode showed up free so I think a lot of people assumed DX9 came in the update as well.

                          Re: FFXI in Wine.

I would so love it if FFXI ran in wine.

I tried to get POL to run in ubuntu (Gusty version) but it crashed right upon startup. Figuring it was due to a really old version of WINE that was in place, updated it but still having the same problem.

Feba, have you been able to run POL at all since the update yesterday? I'm keep on coming across errors of various .dll's trying to load (such as FFXIVersions, unicows).

Strangely enough, all this was working fine in Feisty.

manna: follow the instructions on appdb. Chances are you didn't add the dlls that POL needs to Wine's libraries

That's what I thought too but I wondered what I did wrong since it was working in the previous version and not the new one.

Anyways, my hubby was able to go through POL, get the update, select 'open in windowed mode'. It opened up in windowed mode (sorta) -- there was no content within the window. When checking into the log, there was nothing new there (no errors or fixmes)
