Does any body know if wine works on the ps3 compatible versions of linux?
sorry NO Wine only works on x86 processors...not the cell processor/power PC!
Besides if you want FFXI on the PS3(60 gig and 20 gig) you just install the POL viewer from FFXI(original), CoP, or TAOU and use the Vana'diel Collection 2008....at least that's the way it'll work unless Sony releases a firmware update that will allow that to find the HDD!(stupid sony!)

hmmm, the trouble is i live in europe and i don't know if the ps2 version would work on my ps3. does any know a place that sells teh origanl ps2 copy and sells outside na?
Also, even if you used something that could run on the PPC (Like Darwine, which I don't know if it works on PS3, and I'm not sure if it's anywhere near maintained), the PS3 locks out it's graphics card when it's running Linux, so you can't use it for 3D games.
If you want to play FFXI, under your circumstances you'd probably be best off buying a computer. Computers are very cheap.

Not unless they finally sold an EU PS2 edition...I hate Sony that way...
The 80 gig uses the same software emulation as the EU version there and I heard that it(out 80 gig edition) locks up on the original installs....

Been trying but having no luck. The farthest we've been able to go is through POL and go to the point of launching the game. Then it goes into the endless loop in the terminal and nothing happens (black screen).
I'm still rather new to Linux so I don't understand what a lot of the things mean but still trying anyways ^^
As reported in the thread Ameroth linked to three months ago, there really isn't much work to do. It works. There's a bit of lag now and then that's easily fixed with a quick key press. If that's not good enough, there's a patch even for that (see www.wineffxi.org | You no longer have to be tied to Windows in the forums). And if that's not good enough either, use google and you'll find .debs for already-patched versions.
Ellipses on Fenrir There is no rush. If you're not willing to take your time, don't be surprised when no one wants to give you much of theirs.
