In all actuality, you really did miss the point. I find it humourous that people are going on about the 2h update again, when the thing is, SE wouldn't be able to reset 2h to the initial setting (otherwise, what'd be the point?), mainly cuz they'd see even more backlash from the 2h community than the DW/1h community would ever be able to muster. However, while I still stand by the fact that I'm a fan of the current 2h status as it is, I don't see it as "zOMG END OF THE WURLD!!!1!!!!". There's just no point. As such, I posted exactly that. Not my fault you don't have a sense of humor.

Trying to call me out by posting a standard retort when you really didn't catch my message? That's what's not clever, just... ...boring, really. Try something amusing next time, would ya? LFP can take its toll.

What are you talking about? I really dont have a clue anymore. Calling you out? Do you think thats what this is about? I was simply giving you info. LFP? I'm a old timer nin and rng and now i'm a cor... not much lfp'ing to be honest.

I really dont know why you took such offense to my response to you. If you have read any of the posts in the past 12 hours you'd notice a lot of anxious worried posters. I was simply reassuring you and whoever had any doubts about the 2h re-re-re-adjustments. I'm not sure where you even stand now since it looks like you call it humor now but whatever it may be, I'm not much for sappy humor. No offense.

Take it for what you will. It's a bit late and this is getting old. The trolling-esque posts by the both of us.

              Welcome to RNG.

As far as the RDM spells SE hopes will encourage frontline activity, I can see this adjustment not really changing much. If you're playing RDM right, it is so casting-intensive that its hard to output worthwhile melee DoT to build PT. Almost 90% of RDM soloing is just buffing yourself as it is.

Additionally, to perform all your casting duties effectively, you need casting gear, staves and so on. All the Gobbie Bags in the world wouldn't make enough room for a melee build to go with my MND, INT, MAB gear and such.

Staves are an obstacle for RDM melee and an eight-slot one at that. Its also somewhat of a burned to CORs who want to DD and get the most out of Quick Draw. A sword with the combined elemental properties of these staves would be one way of remedying the issue, but maybe SE just wants to force the tradeoff on both jobs.

Honestly, they should leave how the 2-hand update currently is to DRG ONRY. It's the least they deserve after being shanked for so many years!

God forbid. Do we need more clueless melee RDMs...?

I suppose if the boost to RDM melee is worthwhile then it might make sense, but the whole elemental staff Magic Accuracy boost says that the backline caster role is still what it's destined for, since so many RDM spells are dependent on staves once you get access to them.

Not that I object to the concept of RDM melee - it's just that I've seen so many RDMs slack off on their spellcasting duties because they thought their puny melee damage was making up the difference. I'm really not wild about the idea of encouraging that sort of silliness any more than necessary, ESPECIALLY as we have a perfectly viable front-line melee mage in Blue Mage now.

I'm not ruling out the possibility that RDM melee could be good, but it would take a major change in the game mechanics for them to do so. Right now, RDMs are tied at the hip to their elemental staves once they hit level 51 in party play. They have barely-par combat attack skills (sword/dagger at B), and the requirement to switch weapons drops their TP to 0 unless they give up the damage/accuracy boost from staves.

Now, if RDMs got some sort of boost from Enspells that gave them +10% magical accuracy from spells of that element while the Enspell is active on a sword, and the damage bonus wasn't so low per hit, then maybe RDM melee will become acceptable.

Barring that though, the whole reasons RDMs have gotten shoved into the backline role in the first place is because their boosts when playing as spellcasters are far more potent than when they focus on physical combat. I don't quite see Square-Enix going that far to warp one of the focal point jobs in the game, whose most pertinent ability remains a spell (Refresh).

Besides, don't we have enough jobs whose primary focus is standing near an enemy and flailing away for damage?
