Re: how do you play in windowed mode?
For now, you can download the windower ( http://www.windower.net/ ; Sorry mods, but I agree with Icemage, or whoever said it, better to give them the real link than leave them to find worse themselves.), or like malacite said you can just wait for WOTG to come out.

I say wait it out until Wings comes out. It comes out at the end of the month so it's best you wait and not get banned. Yea, they've been known to ban people for using Windower. Luckily for me I'm on the 360 ver! (Even though I have all three versions. >.>)

Please note that using the Windower Feba linked to is using third party software in conjunction with FFXI, and as such is a violation of the Terms of Service and can possibly lead to a temporary or permanent ban of your account.Wii Number - 2810 2423 4673 3261 - Please PM me if you add me!

Re: how do you play in windowed mode?
I tried Windower the other day after 2.5 years of fullscreen mode on the PC. I used it for all of 30 mins then gave up on it.
I really like the plugins for timers and distance, but I find the light luggage plugin gives an unfair advantage. Ever wondered why other people in merit parties always seem to get the beastmen and kindred seals even though they are far too busy to monitor the treasure pool all the time and pass on crystals? Light luggage does this for you, and also stacks the seals. If that not an unfair advantage I don't know what is.
Also I'm keen to see if the official windowed mode in WoTG can cope with keeping the game in sync with the screen refresh cycle. In the 30 mins I was using windower I found the screen tearing from the lack of vsync terrible. A lot of people don't care about it but its a big quality issue for me. Try spinning left and right on the spot and watching the background tear to shreds, truely aweful.
A second PC or laptop really is the best way to go if you can, since web access is a must playing this game.

Disable Light Luggage then. It's not hard. Hell, disable all of the plugins if all you want is ALT TAB.
I'm sorry you had a lot of trouble with your vsync, but I've never had an issue with it. Still, I'm looking forward to the official functionality.

Amarok: I've gotta agree with Murphie, if you don't like the plugins, turn them off.
I also agree though that a second computer is the best way to solve this (as well as many other problems. Imo, there's nothing that can't be solved by the philosophy "THROW MORE COMPUTERS AT IT.", although that could be because I'm an old BLM.)

I got your point perfectly, I just don't really care. You're not stopping anyone by not using Windower either.

Re: how do you play in windowed mode?
Windower has a windower lite version as well if you feel anything of the plugin create ethic problems within you. All it does is give you the window feature making the game not crash when it loses focus.
As far as possibly getting banned, it's unlikely unless you say something in game about it. None of the basic features of windower are detectable by SE as everything is done client side. SE doesn't (legally) have a way of knowing that we have a program reading the memory and displaying things like distance, TP, MP or any thing else.
I havn't heard though that a few suspect that the timestamp feature is/can be detected in some way, but I'm not sure to the accuracy of those reports. Mainly I've read that it can cause the game to crash sometimes while talking to a NPC. It is nice however for camping some various NM that has an 18-36 hour spawn window and you'd like to know when it died.
Another main feature used by the windower is the macros, and that is debated as to weather or not it gives an unfair advantage. Personally I like them; SE gives us mage types 50+ pieces of equipment that you're considered gimp without, yet I can only swap 6 of those pieces in a macro. Personally I don't think I should have to hit 3 macros, change pages, hit another macro, and switch back to the other page to fire off a spell. That may be a bit of an exageration, but you get my point.
I'd suggest starting with windower lite just for the alt-tab feature, and know that a lot of people have some or all of the various plugins running and decide for yourself if you want to use them.
Personally, I'm very curious how many people that use the windower will switch to the official one when it is released. For a long time, it's been considered 'not cheating' because it was so basic in principle, but how many of us could give up the unlimited macro room, DrawDistance, TParty and such. No matter I suppose.
----
Of all the things Windower can give a player, I didn't know LiteLuggage was going to be considered the worst of them. Yea it's nice to not have to manually go to the inventory and sort it, but it's not all that hard either. I did it for well over a year before that plugin was released. It's really only helpful in places like dynamis where 1 person is lotting on all the single currency, and the pluggin will auto-lot on it all. Not really and advantage (as we're all working together as a team), but really just a nice benifit.

Re: how do you play in windowed mode?
Well Feba is on my ignore list so I never get to see what he writes, and I'm not interested in his answers. I'm just of the opinion that everyone should be in the same boat when it comes to playing an online game. Until I looked at Windower I never knew what these plugins did, and now I know.
There are many shortfalls in the game (macro length, no-autosort in inventory etc), but all the time these things are available to people because of an illegal 3rd party tool then the people that choose to follow the rules will be at a disadvantage.
