Hi guys, I am new to these forums. I've been around FFXI since the NA release, but the only forums I ever visited was allakhazam. From what I've seen the people here seem to be friendlier and a little bit more mature.
So anyway, that wasn't the point of this post. I wanted to share my experience. Recently, I decided to kill off my 75 MNK with the intention of taking him down to level 40. Originally, I posted this on allakhazam because I was asking for advice on a good place to do this. Cape Terrigan was under beastmen control so I was unable to set my homepoint there.
Of course after I posted this I got asked why. When I explained I got ripped a new one and was basically told I was the dumbest FFXI player of all time. So, I'm posting this here either because I'm a sucker for abuse or hoping this community is a little more understanding - thinking outside the box.
So, as a background my main character is Vawn. I have another character, Latch, (on a second account) who exists just to come in handy for my main via dual boxing. Until recently Latch was a lvl 75 MNK and came in very handy as an 'attack dog'. I should note that I "solo'd" MNK to 75 pretty quickly via dual-boxing power-leveling. I later did the same thing and solo'd Vawn's MNK to 75 as well.
I've been working toward Maat's cap - 7 jobs at 75, all others 40+. After becoming frustrated with the lack of invites on my 40 BLM, I decided to try another route. I took Latch's 40 WAR and triple-boxed (with the help of a high level WHM a LS mate lets me use). This worked out well, but WAR is still not quite as great for this as MNK - with counter gear and counterstance.
So I started thinking, man I wish Latch could just be lvl 40 again. He's already a fully-merited MNK. And so I decided to kill him off. I took him to 40, took 2 1/2 days (about 4-5 hours a day). Not too bad actually, but around level 69 I started asking myself, 'ummmm what are you doing?' But I stuck to it and am currently leveling that MNK with Vawn's DRK. Both are at 46 now. Once I hit 75, I plan on killing Latch all over again and picking up the next job.
Anyway, purposefully killing my level 75 character over and over until he was level 40 again is the craziest thing I've done in FFXI. Anyone else done something that someone else might consider warranting a straight jacket?
