If they tossed out PS2 support then there are many other areas for improvement. For example, unlimited sales slots on the AH, increased safe size.

ive also noticed ps2 seems good for claiming stuff, i guess cause it's only running ffxi, a pc would still be running other stuff in the background

FFXI is at least the third most populateds MMO out there, behind a Lineage game iirc, which is highly popular in asian countries, and WoW, which just has an absurd amount of users. FFXI *is* a top ranked MMO as it stands.

And btw, this game IS a top ranked MMO, despite being 5 years old. It's at least number 3 in the rankings with a solid 500k active accounts and 20+ active servers.

Yeah, cause it's not like they've been in the shadow so long doing minor updates and rarely the ones people would mostly request while delaying their biggest efforts.

FFXI is already a highly rated MMORPG. If you're after WoW status, perhaps you might go play WoW. Seriously, having 6M ppl play FFXI isn't going to make it any better than it is now; just fill it with morons.

There are good reason to do that and not do that, but that's a long discussion.

The summary version is that given multiple platforms for clients to run on, it's most fair to all users to limit UI to be as similar as possible, since it may be difficult to provide the same level of mod-ability on some of the platforms.

On the other hand, players have shown an appetite for modification to UI, and many have been quite willing to install them via cheat tools (i.e. Windower and plug-ins). This has given those players with game play advantage over others, exactly the scenario that imposing an uniformed UI was supposed to avoid.

Not everything is PS2's fault. The AH sale slots limitation come from the server side, not client side. Increased safe size will also impose additional resource requirement on the backend.

And, I have to question this: Mog Safe can be expanded to 80. Using furniture, you can gain 80 spaces in the form of Mog House Storage at cost of some Mog Safe space. Fully unlocking Mog Locker is another 80 spaces. That's about ~220 spaces, after excluding the furnitures used.

If a potentially 220 large item storage per character's Mog House isn't enough, exactly how many would be enough?

(Don't protest you can't get that much on mules--yes you can, just have to work for it. I'm thinking to organize an "Get Aht Urhgan access for mules" day for my LS, just to help everyone out with storage.)

Not that anyone trying to decide to play FFXI or not would seriously consider item storage as an important topic.

....they do major updates every three months, they've fixed tons of long standing problems and introduced mini games and battle systems that have been specifically asked for by the playerbase. Anything that's been delayed has been so because they either can't get it to work right or don't know how to fix it, both of which they state when confronted about a problem.

They're not hiding anywhere, they're doing their job.

My post was a quick few points answering the OP in my opinion after having played most of the big MMOGs out there. Personally, I think it is a top rated MMOG. After WoW, it's right up there and beats EQ, EQ2, and Vanguard subs combined. That said, there are many things they could do to improve their market share which includes enticing existing gamers from other MMOGs as well as pulling in new blood. One of their glaring issues is their piss poor CS and dev feedback with the players. Despite all their faults at least there is regular communication between players and developers in games like WoW, EQ, EQ2 etc. While these might yield no results or in some cases unfavourable ones it still gives the player some line of communication. With S-E we get the annual non-commital responses to questions interspersed with what they strategically decide to dripfeed the players about the next expansion.

As to the whole PS2 issue, I'd ask two questions:

1) Would you still like to be playing FFXI in another five or ten year's time?
2) Do you think it would still be acceptable for a game competing for subscriptions in 5 or 10 year's time to be using a 10/15 year old console as its limiting factor?

1) Major Graphics update

2) Some kind of plan to help the PS2 users who will be phased out shortly due to lack of PS3 support and older models of PS2 hardware problems.

3) How about some decent music for the areas that have none?

4) Find some way around the PS2 limitations that won't piss people off? (If at all possible. Wishfull thinking I know but it had to be said)
