  • Three simple requests for everyone asking SE questions.

Yes, I know I didn't post in that forum. That's because this isn't a question for SE. And yes, I know it already has a sticky. This is to make things clearer, be blunt, and because honestly most of you probably didn't read it in the first place.

1- No freaking suggestions. We don't care if you put a question mark at the end. Saying "Why don't Red Mages have <insert spell here>?" is the same as saying "I want Red Mage to have <insert spell here>.". Period. Saying "Will you make an underwater city for FFXI?" is the same as saying "I want an underwater city in FFXI.".

A question would be, "What does <thing> do?" or "Why is <thing that's out of place> in <place>?". If you thinking "I think it would be nice to have..." comes in to your question at any part, whether you're thinking it up, asking it, or discussing it, it's probably a suggestion.

2- Don't ask questions you already know the answer to. This is somewhat about not asking questions without searching for them, but mainly about asking stupid questions again as a suggestion. Such as, "Why can't Dragoon summon multiple wyverns at once", it would break the game, and that's obvious. By asking it, you only make yourself look like a tard.

3- If you don't want other people to comment on your question, don't ask it. Your question is being asked on behalf of us all, if you dislike criticism of it, especially comments that could tune it to a more appropriate or likely to be answered questions, don't bother posting it.

If you could all just keep these three things in mind, we could get some quality questions that might actually get us interesting replies from SE. Nobody gives a shit what SE thinks about your plan to balance the races, people DO care about what SE was thinking when they added doll gizmos, and so on..

Not to worry, though, we're going to be sifting through the questions that are posted when we go through and put together the list for voting, and anything like what you're describing will get ignored.

Good post Feba, though I still don't see a problem with offering one's opinion as long as it is kept very brief and to the point.

spellblades would be cool, actually it's funny some people want Swordskills like in FFT, but I count the 1h Sword and 2h Sword WS's as "swordskills".

but spellblades are actually more unique and haven't been featured outside of FFV, I think.

It's amazing the number of times that sub-forum has been used this week. I'm looking forward to seeing what we choose and what gets answered.

I know, which is part of the reason these threads piss me off. They waste space on the New Posts page dammit.

Is that how the moderators feel about suggestions couched in questions? I just checked all 3 stickies, and none of them say, "Don't post suggestions here."

In the Rules sticky, Icemage even called the Ask SE forum a "feedback tool". That implies something more substantial coming from the players than simply questions.

Re: Three simple requests for everyone asking SE questions.

It's not that we don't want people to post suggestions - there are certainly some instances where suggestions might be warranted. But (in general) asking them something specific like "will you give X job Y ability" will typically get met with a noncommital answer.

On the whole, what will probably happen with such posts is that they'll get reworded to be less specific yet still pertinent to the topic.

Getting specific on spells and abilitys does seem something they could really respond well to, but I don't think it's too much of a strech to wonder what types of areas they want us to see next.

They'll just say "Wait and see."

The point is more along the lines that the forum is not for telling S-E what to do or what you want to see, and that just because it's in the form of a question it doesn't mean you're not telling them what to do.

Suggestions like being able to pass on LS leadership and such are fine, but telling them to add something that affects game balance, and/or on top of that telling them how to implement something you'd like to see, is generally not useful. Something like "Can you make THF stronger?" or "Can you add Enspell II?" is a waste of a potential question that'll just be met with "we'll look into it," "we think x job is fine as it is," etc.

What brought this on is that there's an annoyingly high occurrence of selfish/unreasonable/questionable suggestions.
