U play FFXIO? Wut? HOW I PLAY A FORUMS?
I get asked that question a lot.

And have you ever seen someone who actually plays the game use FFXIO to refer to the game, and not the forum, and vice versa for FFXI?

Of course not. De facto usage is 9/10ths of language.

Depending on what your particular job will be, you may or may not have time to play this game once you join the Army, but I know a few guys who managed to make it work, as well as a few Sailors and Marines who play, and I myself am in the Air Force, so it's not entirely outside the realm of possibility. You'll just have to accept the fact that your play times may not always coincide with the majority of the NA population.

I dunno how it is in the Army, but in the AF, a lot of the lower ranking (E-1 through E-4) Airmen, as well as a few NCOs, tend to play WoW a lot, but there's a few of us that actually enjoy a harder MMO (like this one). It's all a matter of taste. Get through boot camp, then see if you can't continue where you left off in your adventures in Vana'diel.

Also, if you choose Kujata, you'll have a linkshell ready and waiting for you if you want it.

Well, since I'm from Finland I'd like to play with European players (only because of the time difference).
But I read a bit that the distribution of the players is kinda spread out, so it shouldn't be a problem.

As for the class, I'll be going for something that seems interesting..
(I've always ended up being a healer/support class, so will try to not end there this time, even though I've got nothing against that).

And as for WoW.. the only thing that has kept me there is all the people I've got to know, but if I manage to get someone to tag along and start FFXI with me, then I might just stick around!
(I don't like the "game X is better than game Y.." since all games have their sides).

I'm just not a fan of "hit the easy button"...and WoW seems to be like that. It's almost "hit buton and get top level in 1-2 months"(not my cup of tea).

My favorite thing about FFXI is that it does not make you stick to the class you start out as...say you get tired of being Warrior...you just go talk to the moogle back in town, change your gear and play some other class...(All on the same charater!)

This was a major sticking point for me and other MMOs...that you were stuck to whatever class you picked at the begining and if you wanted to change it you had to make a new character and start all over again! FFXI does start all jobs at lvl 1 but you keep all the lvls of each job if you want to swap back XD(so you have be lvl 75 THF and lvl 55 Summoner all on the same character ^^)

So only race really matters if you want to be a jack of all trades....(since the races have different weaknesses and strgenths) Hume is avarage, Glaka is geared abit twords mele(having a bad MP pool), Mithria has more dex and AGI but is still avarage, Tantutau is magical and ellvan is kinda tank geared but they can do magic if you fix them right...

                  ...

...okay, I really try not to indulge in criticizing spelling on a forum... but "Tantutau" is over the top. Yes, I can decipher what it means, and so can anyone who knows the races and their strengths and weaknesses (read: anyone who wouldn't need to read what you just said in the first place), but for people trying to get a perspective on the game, this can't be good.

I really don't get why so many people seem to be in such an incredible rush to type and post that they can't so much as glance back at the words they're producing to see if they so much as make sense. I find it extremely disconcerting trying to parse blocks of text discussing the strgenths of Glaka vs. Tantutau and frankly I tend to skim or even skip large posts consisting of such hastily-formed text. I think it does a disservice to the reader who is far more likely to misunderstand or fail to understand at all what you're saying, and to yourself as it undermines the whole point of trying to contribute.

I don't want to start flames or make you feel like you don't have something to contribute, I just really want to encourage you to take a little more time and care and consider the impact on the reader of what you are typing.
