Thank you to all who answered. The next time I am asked by someone I will know how to answer.

Not that I doubt you buy gil nor do I care, but seriously.... Saying "someone else" asked you is just -so- cliche....

Sorry had to mention that.ฺ But really, you could just tell him what you think. Not what we think.

              Re: Buying gil?

In 2003 when the market was a bit different, a good friend of mine had WHM as her first job. She went along, leveling, pting. But at a certain point gear was becoming more important and certain spells became in demand (Erase).

Tired of begin unable to farm solo with any real decency or efficiency and tired of being mocked for not having the spells, the WHM bought gil in order to not be a drag or let the group down. Then she used the gil and bought the items everyone complained were absent. Then?

              All was well.

Beehive Chips. Sheep Leather. Tsurara. HELM. Fishing. Crystals and Conquest gear from low-level jobs.

Erase is a cakewalk, impatience isn't inability, and getting away with it doesn't make it okay.

Erase wasn't a cakewalk as such - over mill for a spell (plus Raise III - remember that?). Personally, I BCNMed it.

Time-consuming and difficult aren't the same thing. Yes, I remember Erase (mine cost 1.4 million; I didn't even realize it was cheap now). Might as well learn to make gil at level 32, you're going to have to sometime.

                      Re: Buying gil?

Negative ramifications of RMT on the economy aside, I personally feel like any items, equipment, scrolls, or other should belong to the person that earned them. Therefore, they should be able to sell them to another player if they'd like. Perhaps SE should focus on stoppings RMTs from monopolizing a part of the game and let things go... IMHO

All was well except your 'friend' took the easy way out instead of working for something that most everyone else had worked for. What's the point in paying a monthly fee for a game and then paying more to cheat your way through it?

Trying to justify your 'friend's' gil buying itself isn't likely to be well received. Bumping a dead thread to do so is just plain annoying.

I don't know if I was trying to justify anything. But it was a memorable event to me. Even if the incident is years old, it applied to the topic. This thread was on page one, if that is bumping a dead thread, I apologize. Necro-posting was not my intent. And if you are annoyed, I am not exactly gonna lose sleep over it. ;p We just agree to disagree.

dead thread? its only been 4 days since anyone posted, your just looking for a reason to bitch at her.....

and the way some people bitch at others for not having x item or x spell... I don't blame some people, who might not have the time to play forever... might buy gil to get that item.

                              Re: Buying gil?

This post was started 10/18/07 (This month) and has several posts inbetween so it's hardly what can be reasonably considered a necropost.

I always figured if I don't have time to play an MMO then I won't play it that includes farming time. I went through as whm for my first job and stopped leveling it for awhile when I breached the 40 barrier to get enough gil to buy erase. Went on a bcnm on a Jeuno shout for whm and was able to buy it with my orbs drops. 400k erase at the time. Frankly I'm disapointed in the white mage that payed IGE for the gil there. Whitemages are always useful for bcnm's.

                                10/19/07 to 10/30/07

How is that four days? I'm not looking for a reason to 'bitch' at anyone. I don't agree with the point of their post and I don't agree with how they chose to make it.

Let me put this a different way. Someone bumped a thread after more then 10 days to essentially say 'gilbuying is ok'. It's not. It never will be. Ameroth stated it about as well as anyone could.

This is to any future, present or past gilbuyers. You may not get caught. You may get whatever fancy item you didn't have before. You also cheated. You also decided it was ok to not work as hard as everyone else. FFXI takes time. If you don't have the time to craft, farm, garden, bcnm, hunt NMs, fish, harvest, mine or play the AHs and bazaars to make money like most of the general population then maybe you shouldn't be playing the game.
