Best City to Level From 1?

Hello All,

I haven't seen a thread on this particular topic yet, so I thought I'd throw it out there. It's more of a discussion/debate on which of the three starter cities has the best "enviroment" to level 1-10. I started in Basty and have taken 3 jobs to 10 just outside it. Here's my take on Basty:

Mobs South of Basty West to Dangruf Wadi:
Bees: Good XP, easy Fights
Birds: Good XP, decent Fights
Lizzys: Great XP, Harder Fights
Gobbies: XP not worth the fights
Saprolings: Xp not worth the fights
Wurms: decent xp, easy fights
Quadov: Xp not worth the fights
Wheits/Whites/?: Just no
Crabs: Long easy fights, Okay Xp

The area is open and very visibile with no trees or anything. So, mobs are easy to find and target. Its very easy to navigate around aggroific mobs such as gobbies and Quadov. You can get from 1 to 7 easily without dying in a couple hours. Tons of wurms and bees everwhere! Decent drops/drop rates. Two entrances to Basty from south for easy access or escape from death. Anyone else have anything on the other two?

There's no best city, all 3 offer good and varied things.

Windurst has more scrolls available in its magic shops than other cities, you can farm Crawlers for Silk Thread and Yagudo Bead Necklaces for gil or Tenshodo fame. San d'Oria offers decent armor/weapon/scrolls from NPCs (sort of like a happy medium between Windurst and Bastok's shops) and you can farm Sheep to your heart's content, and Fire Crystals from orcs.

Thanks Armando. However, I disagree. I think that surrounding areas in the different cities provide different obstacles for lvling 1-10. The huge amount of trees around San d'Oria are very troublesome.
You guys are soo lucky you have crawlers... Although, I was walking through there with my lv 41 RDM and killed about 15 of them with no drops...

I have to say, having leveled from 1-10 repeatedly in each city, I find I level quickest and easiest in Bastok. The mobs in Gustaburg are more condensed than the ones in Ronfaure and Saruta, and the availability of large amounts of worms, which are very squishy and give great exp helps quite a bit.

Exactly. The only 'difference' is mob variety. So you kill a crawler instead of a worm. Thats it. There is no real difference.

I agree with Illuen. You don't even have to walk to start your next fight its soo condensed. No loss of time or anything. And how about aggrolific mobs. S. Gusta has Gobbies and Quadov. Gobbies are practically non-existent until you get just outside of Dangruf Wadi. Quadov are very uncomplicated and don't have ranged weaponry (yes I know they have dia though...). They can't outrun you, so you can zone without dying.

My vote goes for Sandy- Fire crystals a plus. Mobs don't get any more
condensed than Gelselba outpost. If you get there when it's empty, you can kill non stop at level 8-10. Once you kill all the orcs, you can chop down the trees and start leveling wood. Sandy has a good base for crafting guilds and the sheep and rabbits to make it profitable early.

I'll agree with that! Sandy makes it easy to level Leather and Fishing early and cheaply on drops. Windy makes it easy to start Clothcraft early and cheaply on drops. And Basty makes it easy to start Smithing early and cheaply on drops. Any others?

Mobs in Windurst are condensed - if you go to the Horutoto ruins. The northwest one (near Giddeus) in particular is amazing for levelling from 5-10.) Mob density is ridiculous in there and you can go on a constant killing frenzy; if you're alone, mobs will respawn faster than you can clear them. It's chock full of lv.4-5 tribats and goblins, and there's a secret passage that contains lv.6-7 big bats too.

You say Ronfaure's trees are troublesome? Bastok and Windurst have high cliffs that you need to get around. But I've never found the terrain to be an issue in any of the cities. Part of soloing is knowing the terrain, and if you know the terrain then you should know how to get around it.

EDIT: Also, I'm pretty sure mob density is the same in Giddeus as in Ghelsba.

So is Sarutabaruta and Ronafure is not densly packed

West Sarutabaruta has 2 gates to Windurst
East Ronafure has 2 gates to San d'Oreo

The three starting areas were made to provide the same experience so it didn't matter. There is no best.

For that matter...
Tahrongi Canyon = Konschtat Highlands = La Theine Plateau
Valkurm Dunes = Buburimu Peninsula
Jugner = Meriphataud = Passhow
Batallia = Rolanberry = Sauromugue

Etc. Etc. The world was made with this sort of symmetry. Why do people level up in Valkurm and not Buburimu? Because Valkurm is between two nations and Buburimu is only close to one. Everything else is the same.

I realize they were made to mirror each other to give different cities startings a similar experience. However, I'm no a robot and I have an opinion. And my opinion is that its a much easier enviornment near Basty.

Opinions based on facts can be right or wrong. I'm not saying my opinion is right by default or anything like that. I'm just saying that if you think one area is better than another for getting EXP, you probably didn't see everything that the other area had to offer. I've been around in this game long enough to try soloing 1-20 in various areas and I've found no difference between "symmetrical" zones except for Bastok because Quadavs aggro by sound and that makes them more unsafe to prey on than sight-based beastmen.

Oh, so you admit that there are some differences that could cause someone to prefer one area over another... Interesting. Value of drops and scenery can also play important factors in peoples opinions. Also, I have walked around each city many times and I would say there is a higher concentration of bees and wurms closer to basty than any other city. And, I think these mobs are better. What's ur favorite city to level from 1 Armando? Since they are all the "same", you just start at whichever you're closest to? Or whichever is your Home Country?
