  • quick question about updates

Is there any way possible to transfer pol and ffxi updates to another computer? i have 2 pc's with ffxi and because i have dial up, I'm wondering instead of having to update the other one, can i just copy the updated files across?

    thanks

Not reliably no. You're only safe bet is to simply update.
I use a Mac because I'm just better than you are.

      Re: quick question about updates

I'm not sure If I should create another thread but the thing is: I just got my Vana'diel Collection 2008 in the mail earlier today and installed. I took sometime to update the playonline viewer, create and set all the IDs and stuff necessary and now I'm updating the game itself.

I'm a dial-up user (please, I know it's tempting for some to say "get broadband" but save it) and the update is probably going to take more than 12 hours to complete. My doubt is: If I DC, would the download resume from where it was interrupted or I would have to start all over again?

I have no pitty for you if you "Choose" to use dial up.
Also no you cannot copy the files over they make registry entries and when you copy and paste them over esentially your game wont work at all.

I know I've tested and proven it.

It depends of your definition of "choose". I use because there's no option of high-speed connection to end-consumer where I live, though I could move to another town. I chose living here, the crappy ISP is just part of the package for another 1 or 2 years.

By "Choose" I mean actually picking to use dial up eventhough there are other ways of accessing the interwebs a lot faster.

I can understand that though, I cant use cable where I am moving to =( got a house in the country. But hey DSL may just be a bit faster than Cable since its not a shared bandwidth with the whole damn town lol.

Copying and pasting the files after installing the game and all expansions works for me. POL will report an FFXI update, but after it checks all the files it'll cancel it.

If you can stay on long enough to make it through checking all files and actually get to the part where you d/l files, then yes, dc'ing will slow you down, but you don't have to re-download them all. Used to happen to me a lot, it still checks everything (moves faster through the files you've already downloaded) then starts downloading where you left off.

You don't see a 'thanks' button beneath my post? no idea why that would be.

                  Re: quick question about updates

copying and pasting is not a option for me as I'm probably the only one in town with this game so I'm doing the hard way. I don't bother if that takes a full night or a full week to update, I'm just worried of disconnections ruining hours of download.

                  EDIT:

                  wohoo \o/
Coincidence or not I just DC'd right now and yes, it's resuming from where It stoped. Thank you. Strangely enough there's no "thanks!" button under or post. Is it a glitch or have you set this someway?

EDIT 2: Now it's there. It was probably a temporary glitch.

That sure is pretty odd hmm maybe it did work for me I just had a virus on my computer at the time lol.

Had to reinstall windows again anyway so I esentially only installed FFXI for a weeks worth of run time lol.
