They said *mostly* pre-RoZ areas. And seeing as we've already seen a gateway-zone that's specific to this expansion it proves that non-original zones will be in the game as well.

And i see no problems with us seeing taz, they just won't let us go there. After all that was like THE battle, the bitchingest one there was. We might even get a CS version of the opening (god i want a new opening!)
Tavnazia was a major hub back during the Great War, and that's why it was sacked. And SE already stated that there would be a new 'central hub' city for this expansion and I can't think of any better place then the original, pre-war Tavnazia.

We can already see the city in game now, I think it's time we got to go inside.

Re: WotG expansion = 4 new cities!!!!

During the war you could *walk* to Tavnazia (before some magical disaster rearranged the geography), it'd be a pretty major change in FFXI history to make it unavailable. Also, several screenshots look like the scenery in Tavnazia (which wasn't an archipelago then).

I just realized something else about the geography in the past: there might not be a past Valkurm or Selbina. Vollbow and Tavnazia were rearranged by the disaster, so who knows what was in the area where Valkurm is now...

I wonder if it will be possible to access Korroloka Tunnel in the past (if you don't mind fighting your way through about a million Anticans). I think they blocked it off somehow, though. There aren't any Anticans in the WotG screenshots which kind of implies that they don't play much of a role.
Defeated: Maat, Divine Might, Fenrir, Kirin, Cactrot Rapido, Xolotl, Diabolos Prime, Kurrea, 9/10 Dynamis Bosses (missing Tav), Promathia, Proto-Ultima, Proto-Omega, 4 Jailers, Apocalypse Nigh, 6/6 Nyzul Bosses
      RDM90, PLD90, DRG90, COR90, SCH90, BLU54
All Nations Rank 10, ZMs & PMs Complete, AUMs Complete, Captain, Nyzul Floor 100 (5 Weapons, 4 WS), Medal of Altana, WotG Mission 15, 1/3 Addons Complete, 9/9 Abyssea Main Quests, 6/6 Caturae

Valkurm, and by extention Selbina, have been around much longer then the Great War. Infact there are some AF quests there that deal with Shadows who were mroe or less 'born' from events in the Great War.

As for Korrokola, story says it was closed off for years so I think that will be the case in this expansion. It'll be deemed too dangerous or something or off limits to us for whatever reason and kept locked tight.
