I've personally noticed that the stigma on tarutaru melee has largely evaporated, though there's still some lingering stigma on galka mages. I'd say that most people seem to check elements of the search listing with about this priority order:
1) Main job level
2) Main job
(first two may be situationally reversed)
3) Sub job level -- if it's less than half main job level, most people will think twice
(past this point, many people are already finished with what they'll bother to look at)
4) Sub job -- A lot of people don't bother with this, assuming you'll bring the 'right' sub to the party
5) Rank -- A few people will use this to gauge how newb/n00b you are.
6) Search comment -- The people who will actually read this are few and far between, and growing rarer...
7) Race -- If someone hasn't taken into account pretty much everything above here, they probably won't even notice your race until you actually show up.
Given the 6 and 7 relationship, it's reasonably safe to say you can try to speak to your competence in an odd race/job combo in your search comment. However, unless you're a galka mage you probably won't have to.
That said, there are some jerks who will, after only looking at 1, 2, and maybe 3 above, look at you once you arrive, make a rude comment about your race (or some other unexpectedness), kick you, and invite someone else. Not much else to say other than blacklist them and move on.
But srsly, take it from a Galka mage. Race doesn't mean poop in this game. Just play what you want to play. You might get the occasional idiot, but that doesn't mean anything.
people don't generally pay attention to race when they invite things, but any race can do any job fairly well. The only people that will REALLY struggle are galka mages under about 30-40, but even a galka mage can be decent once they get RSE.
That is so true Feba, I have solod rdm up 21, due to people saying "Galak mage" gimp, no thanks
Its one of the reasons why I am always melee or tank.
Nothing wrong with Galka mages in XP parties, as long as appropriate gears/food/juices(if necessary) are used. Ditto for Tarutaru melees.
I do notice some stigma over Tarutaru tanks still, as well as Galka healers, but a lot of that is just common sense when it comes to pickup parties. You don't know just by asking what sort of gear someone's packing when you invite them, and it's understandable to want to pick the safer bet.
I don't personally care much myself; these days, so many people have merits under their belt that it doesn't make such a huge difference anymore. I'm only ever truly concerned about Tarutaru tanks or Galka mages when they're obviously new (low level, possibly without support job). Such players, in my experience, are generally doing the "unexpected" simply for the sake of being contrarian, and rarely have the resources or experience to make up the difference.
I tanked a few times as WAR/THF on Kumei getting WAR15 for initial sub purposes. In the dunes pretty much any melee with provoke can tank, it's not until the 20s that the viability for certain jobs drops off significantly.
Yes, /THF does pretty much nothing here. But it was my first sub, and I tend to give leeway in the 10-15 range for just that reason, not to mention few jobs give much as subs in this range anyway. I didn't take WAR any farther until I had RNG unlocked and leveled, at any rate. (WAR/RNG makes a pretty nice alternative to WAR/MNK if you play it right.)
Seriously, if you're passing up subless WARs in the dunes in fear that they don't grasp the subtleties of how race selection impacts their playstyles and gear priorities, you're kind of missing the whole point of the dunes. Most of the people who can't cope with newbs have started soloing to 20 at this point anyway, for better or worse...
I think you mean Galka + Subligar, but Elvaans are much worse.
lol I have to agree that subligar+Galka= /panic
Galka is a rough one to start whitemage with due to lack of subjob lowest mana and lowest mind stat race in the game, but it's rare to see a whitemage at low levels that is not in demand regardless of what they have or do. (melee whitemages in the dunes grrrrrrrrr)
