Re: SquareEnix doesn't prorate subscriptions? *sigh*

it's got nothing to do with defending FFXI. There are plenty of things about FFXI and SE I find retarded. But this is the way billing is handled, and it's the OP's own fault for not taking more care with their money.

      oh good god -.- *sigh*

      Lesson 1: Read

      Lesson 2: Read again

Conclusion, it is said in many places that SE does this, its not unethical or ethical, but some online companies do it, and some don't.

Re: SquareEnix doesn't prorate subscriptions? *sigh*

SE does a much better job with their billing for participants of the "Welcome Back to Vana'diel" campaigns.

The following is on the first page after you select Proceed to Type A:

            * The monthly fee is $12.95(USD) for the first character, and $1.00(USD) for each additional.
            * Billing for Content IDs that incur fees will begin from the month following purchase. However, Content IDs with free trial periods will not incur fees for 30 days following the date of purchase. If Content IDs are kept after the free trial period, fees for the first month (i.e. from the first day that fees are incurred to the last day of that month) will be calculated on a day basis, and will be added to the following month's bill.
            * After the first month of reactivation, the first character will incur a monthly charge of $12.95(USD), and all additional characters will incur a monthly charge of $1.00(USD) each.
The following is on the first page after you select Proceed to Type B:

Fees will be incurred once the character reactivation process has been completed. The fee is $12.95 (USD) for the first character, and $1.00 (USD) for each additional character beyond the first. Payments will be due the month following reactivation.
There really isn't something in POL that says this as you try to reactivate?

no. but if you come back in the middle or end of a month, they will still charge you for the full month so ALWAYS REACTIVATE IN THE BEGINNING OF THE MONTH

                Thanks Yyg!

Re: SquareEnix doesn't prorate subscriptions? *sigh*

I really don't care how much someone complains, you're not getting your $12.95 a month unless you're playing 24/7, so there is no point in bitching about paying the perceived "month" value of that $12.95. You're not playing all month, if you really expect $12.95 to equal a month of play, quit your job and life and get to it

If MMO companies did it on a pay-per-play basis, the system would fail and no MMORPG could thrive since people would abuse it.

You get charged a block rate per month and if you miss the first of the month, you'll get dinged twice at the start of the next one. At least you know its coming.

People also need to learn what "ethical" means.

So, you think it's perfectly acceptable for a new player to come along, subscribe on the 28th of September, only to be charged a full month for two days then be charged for October as well? We're not talking RtV participants here, just some new customer who picked up the game and read the manual from cover to cover.

You could argue what is construed as ethical in this instance till you're blue in the face but ultimately you just need to take a look at any other leading MMoG company's billing policy to see S-E's is either archaic, lazy, or downright misleading and money-grabbing.

Thats the third law. The first is "Trolls in motion tend to stay in motion, trolls at rest tend to stay asleep."
