I'm sure there have been posts on this, but I couldn't find them. But, basically I really want to get in to FFXI, and I'll have about 4/5 hours a day to invest, how long do you think it will take (or did it take you) to get to

    level 30
    level 75
    and to be Financially stable

Basically how long is it going to take me to really get to where I'm a stable character and can actually participate in the game?

    Thanks!

    Re: Time required

There is soooo much to do in this game that at almost any level you can participate in the game. 4-5 hours is a good amount of time to get things done.

Depending on what time of the day you play and how well you make gil, the amount of time to get to level 30 and 75 will differ greatly.
    Thanks Kazuki.

      Re: Time required

I'm what you'd call a "casual" player, as I do play every day but not for hours and hours and hours. My kids prevent me from really playing all the time.

I've been playing for three years, and I only got my first 75 job a few months ago. Ultimately, how much you put into it will be how much you get out, and if you're really lucky and you always get parties right away and they're GOOD parties, you can level very quickly in this game. But I'm not going to stand here and tell you that you're going to be 75 by next month. I'd say average to 75 on a first job is ... 6 - 8 months, maybe? That's what I seem to see.

        Re: Time required

It depends entirely on how you prioritize your time. Someone who's constantly exploring, doing quests/missions, and partaking in activities such as chocobo racing/breeding, etc. on the side will take much longer to reach any given level than someone who's focused on getting to 75 and worrying about the rest later.

If that was your goal, you could make it to 75 in 1-2 months.

Money? Everyone has their methods, few will share their real tricks with you. You'll have to do your own research and trial and error to find how you'll become financially stable.

It also depends on what job you play. Getting my mnk to 75 was longer than any of my other jobs. COR so far has been pretty decent.

If you play melee, expect a longer wait time. mages and tanks tend to have better invite rates thus allowing you to level faster.

All though, you could lvl fast as any job if you created your own pt every time.

I would say that once you get a chocobo license and your ability to travel just about anywhere with your little birdie, the game opens up considerably. Getting to Jeuno is no easy feat, but once you get there, a lot of opportunities start opening up, mainly the ability to ride a chocobo through zones where you normally wouldn't be able to walk without death.

so what I'm getting so far is that if I invest a month of playing 4-5 hours a day I'll be able to get a hang of the game and get a solid character (not necessarily maxed or anything)?

You should have a pretty good handle on things by that point, yes. You'll have spent enough time to have a mid-level character at least.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it so much. Just take it easy and enjoy the game, learning the curves, and you'll get the hang of it.

what I'm worried about most is the fact that I'm going to get busy again, and I'll only have a few hours a day to play. What I want is to get a character good enough that I can play casually still, longterm.

Maybe I don't even need to worry about that...

Limited play is sometimes easier at lower levels as it takes less per level to get anywhere. The farther you get, the longer it takes to reach goals so having little play time can sometimes make you feel like you're not getting anywhere.

I wouldn't worry yet if I were you.

And about the OP, I'm the living proof that as you level up having little time to play (less than 4 hours) will make you feel like you are just wasting your time at higher levels (50+).

There are also plenty of activities that you can do in an hour or less, but for me the muling involved would take a good chunk of my already very limited play time, so most of the times I don't even bother.
