No but seriously my parents are having a problem with my brother. He won't stop playing FFXI. The thing is he's 21 and hasn't really worked a job since he graduated HS. He's had 3 jobs since 2004 and all of them lasted a week or two. He says he too "tired to work" or that they did something he didn't like. But then he can play FFXI for about 11hrs a day. And get up and do it all over again the next day.
He'll give you the silent treatment if you tell him to get a job. He's even giving my mom the silent treatment too. My mom doesn't want him to become a junkie so she won't kick him out and she's tired of fighting with him. But I'm tired of my mom struggling to pay for him and my other disabled brother and father. He doesn't do anything but complain, eat, and play FFXI. Seriously what can be done?
First, tell him straight up, stop this, your playing way to much, we are struggling here and you need to get a life and get a job! If that doesn't work, take his game, break it, delete his account, or just trash whatever he is playing on. Im completely serious when I say this, if it has to be done, it has to be done. A person cannot do these kind of things, and they must learn better.
That otta do it. No sugar coating, the guy is 21, i'm 22 i couldnt possibly live like that, i live with my parents but i pay for everything, just not the rent... i couldnt bear being a parasite.
Your brother is probably hurting tbh, does he have a girlfriend? some people go into depression without no one noticing, and theyre not gonna let you know because they rather be playing games than talk about their embarassing problems. I say take action and help him help himself by completely disabling his means to play, in the end once his life is straightened up he'll end up thanking you even if he doesnt let you know.
signatures are for pussies mew mew mew, here's mine
Ok go hire a stripper and get her in full mithra cosplay outside his window.
Then uickly uninstall FFXI and install World of Warcraft and destroy his FFXI discs.
This will crush his soul!
Serious though. I was just like him. I couldn;t find a job so i just gave up looking and spent most of my gapyear on ffxi. When I was working it was at night time, so I could play during the day.
I suggest to get him out is to get him to work nights if you live in the US. I'm sure he lusts for soemthing like a PS3, FFXI players can live without sleep for ages, or very little sleep. Get the idea of FFXI and lots of money into his head. Once primetime is over FFXI wise he can work then at the very least.
If not, kick the bum out. It would have killed me and will have him begging for mercy.
I was playing FFXI and other games right up untill I moved to uni last sunday. I made some friends, any friends that didn';t drink 24/7. then I met some anime nuts and now we're all planning a group cosplay for shits and giggles. But I feel really guilty when I play games now, Thinking I could just be out with these new friends.
God what has university done to me. SAVE ME ALTANA!
It is true that being out there without his parents babysitting him could make him understand, but it could also go the other way. And the family cares about him so they wont just tell him "see ya" and throw him out.
It's an emotional topic, so I'll try to be as honest as I can.
Whoever this guy is, his true dreams, passions, fantisies etc. are not in FFXI, they're in the real world. The game is just a distraction from these things, something to do in your idle time. I myself was playing for 10+ hours a day back in '05, but at the time I was running my own computer repair shop and website hosting businesses. I had an employee to do the dirty work while I sat back playing FFXI, answering the phone and maintaining the websites.
Kick the guy out onto the street, just don't kick him out of your life and you won't have to worry. If he puts his mind to it, he can easily play games while earning cash getting any menial job, or he could do as I did and live his real world dreams first. He won't find his passion and dreams sitting around letting others live his life for him.
He's 21, you should have kicked him out long ago. It's for his own good. He obviously has a wonderful mother, but there is such a thing as being overprotective. The guy needs to stand on his own before he has earned the right to slack off like that, for that to happen you must kick him out.
