It is FFXICLOPEDIA that has worth, not the content. The content is freely available to copy, redistribute, modify, and generally do whatever the hell you want with.

I'm confused, if the content of FFXIclopedia is freely available to copy why would the bluegartr wiki need to worry about copying the content?

Because BG isn't under a GFDL compatible license, for one, and secondly because they're supposedly trying to avoid ffxiclopedia.

I was gonna quote and comment against some of the things stated in the last two pages in this topic, but the damn lolcats took the fight right out of me.

You just directly contradicted yourself... Not only by saying that it's the content that has worth right after saying it's the community that has worth, but by yourself having a backup of FFXIclopedia which proves that it's NOT a matter of access. FFXIclopedia wouldn't have shut down if they weren't bought by Wikia, so your point is moot. They weren't holding the wiki or content ransom.

FFXIclopedia.org when bought cost something around $12 to register the domain. Why? Because it's worthless.

People started using it, added some things, but no one cared. Still worthless.
Site gets a lot of content, people read it. Now the name FFXIclopedia has worth, not because of anything the site did, not because of the community of readers on their own but because they keep drumming out or grabbing content from other places. A community that sits and does nothing but post in forums is also worthless.
Now then, what gave FFXIclopedia worth? It all boils down to the content.
FFXIclopedia sold without content or users- Worthless.
FFXIclopedia sold without content but with users - Unless you plan on getting rich off of blank pages with nothing but ads and flamewars on forums is still worthless.
FFXIclopedia sold with content - This is what was bought. They can't sell the content's rights, but they can sell the content itself. FFXIclopedia only had worth because of the database that went along with the sale.

FFXIclopeida (the name, it's mods, it's users and what not) on it's own has no worth. The content does. It was all that together that made someone pay too much for it.

It has worth because of a community that created the content

What I said was "It has worth because of a community that created the content is probably going to follow it and continue to create content that requires hosting for others to access it." The worth isn't the community, it's the hope that they will probably keep spitting out articles that is worth something. If they didn't, they have no sale value.
