Of course, so is somepage, alla, KI and BluGartr. Other then opinions, by the time the information becomes popular it has all been copied numerous times.
Yep. There are only so many ways to write a mission or quest walkthrough to begin with. The core information all stays the same. However, the issue with copying content typically comes into play with strats and observation. I still remember the Erecia/FFWiki fallout.

I'm glad someone does. One of the amusing things I saw throughout this whole FFXIWiki thing was people pointing to the thing with Erecia, and others saying that they didn't believe it or it didn't matter to them.
I mean, no one is saying "Now that BG Wiki is here, you have to use it to the exclusion of any other source of information." So I'm not sure what all the hysterics are for.
See, I don't know. I mean, maybe it started out with a bit of schadenfreude, but who doesn't love that? The only hysterics I saw were from people telling us that we were stupid for daring to say that we wouldn't be using the wiki anymore.
Well, personally, I don't understand why there needs to be another wiki made, or why all this drama was caused in the first place. Info is info is info, I don't care where it comes from, as long as it's accurate.
What do I think about the sale of ffxic to wikia? I don't care, plain and simple. I'm sure they had their reasons for what they did, and I'm sure that even with all we claim to know based on screencaps and whatnot, we don't know the whole story. And to me, that's enough for me not to pass a judgement on what people are doing with their lives.
Maybe they should give the money people donated back, would that stop the bitching?
No matter, I'm going to stand here firmly and say that it doesn't bother me in the least, and I won't stop using ffxic just because of this whole drama-infested mess.

I doubt it. If you stole money from a bank but returned it a few weeks later I'm sure the police would still want a chat.
There's 2 major issues that people have with the FFWiki issue.
1) The donation issue:
At worst one could argue that the donations were collected and used when the plans for the sale were already in place and weren't necessary at all. At best, the money was gloriously mismanaged ie: funds overspent, funds unaccounted for and donation funds held in a private account (which should never, ever happen).
2) The sale itself:
Essentially, 3 people are being paid approximately 200k for selling the work that a great number of people contributed. I can completely understand being paid a salary to maintain a wiki. However, I can understand how the sale itself might not sit well with people, especially after being assured that such a sale was not on the table.
This is all pretty clear from all the information posted. One could speculate that the whole affair is much darker and deeper then that.
I said it before and I'll say it again. Support it if you choose to, but understand there are a number of people that are not going back to the FFWiki. This has nothing to do with the quality of the information. It was and is a great resource. Some of us just can't stomach the people behind it.
So bbq, can I drag you to the darkside and get you to post your corsair guide ^.^
We'll see, I'm planning some revisions/updates on the guide in the next couple of weeks, I'd like to put together a near-finalized version of the guide as I'm moving focus to other things, in addtion to cut down on some of the wordiness. I'm still waiting to see some new roll data finalized from the update and I want to build a chart to replace my link-a-thon of Phantom Roll data, in addition to adding some more graphics . Its all a matter of sitting down and getting it done.
And those of us who aren't going to use FFXIC aren't going to berate you for your choice. We just ask the same courtesy in return.
Of course not, Murphie. I don't care what you use. I didn't read all the threads about it because I despise internet drama. There's too much of it in my actual life right now and I come here and in FFXI and other places to escape that. So I stay out of it as much as possible. And that's why I don't really have all of the information most of you probably do.
I'll probably check the other one out at some point, they very well might have a different perspective on things.

Reason: 3rd edit >.< Sometimes editing misplaces my line breaks.

No doubt I have a drg guide that needs updating hard since, the 2h adjustments. A war guide at 60% done and Ninja guide I have to sit down and write.

They're being paid to sell the name, image, and the community that goes along with them, if you consider it a sale. They're not selling the work, the work is under the GFDL. If Wikia wanted the CONTENT, they could've easily just taken it for themselves and used it on their existing site. The work doesn't even belong to them, so they cannot sell the rights, just the content itself (again under the GFDL)-- which brings us back to Wikia being fully within their rights to simply take all the information and put it on their own pages.
They are being paid for it, so I do consider it a sale, Feba. I mean, call it what you want, but they had this thing that they were doing for free, and now they are being paid to do it by someone previously unaffiliated.
