Up to now, that site is usually FFXIclopedia. If they move the site to Wikia, the site which would best help the person who needs the info is still FFXIclopedia.
And when I post a link to info, I also mean to help the person who needed it. If you choose to suggest one site over another, that's your call.

Just because you feel that it's the best place to send people doesn't necessarily mean that it is. And if the information is available elsewhere, then I will elect to use that source instead.

    Your response isn't surprising though.

assuming the wiki that BG forums is starting takes off; I'll be sending people there personally; especially for Wings stuff (since alot of the fastest breaking news *is* done by BG - I got 4/5 runic portals in 24 hours after server up because of them; when no other community sites had any info at all.)

        - Hacking of FFXIclopedia--I was doing CoP 6.4 and other things last night and needed info. To Hackers/Crackers with a grudge against Ganiman and Co.: Don't bring down the most important FFXI resource just because you're mad. Please. -_-#
they didn't crash it; ganiman et al. elected to take it down rather than ride out the storm. the primary 'hacking' was simply a revision war over the front-page anyway. they didn't take it down til their own forums erupted under them.

I'm surprised you didn't know that most of the information on the wiki was "appropriated" from KI and Erecia's Guide on her(his?) personal site. (Erecia even lodged a formal complaint about it at one point.)

As for BG wiki, I'm rather doubtful about that. I had trouble with lack of neutral voice from other FFXIclopedia contributors, and even Gahoo (whom I like) didn't seem to care about proper citation on sources.

BG wiki would likely only do worse. And, given how important "attitude" is for surviving on BG's forum, those useless posturing could easily carry over into their wiki. A BG wiki will be painful to read.
honestly, BG wiki's stance of "Pics or it didn't happen" is probably going to improve the overall quality of the wiki;(stunnable weaponskills comes to mind) along with discussion ongoing about what place specific strats vs. raw information has (they're leaning toward making indepth strats subpages and keeping just pure factual information on the main page; which will be less biased than ffxiclopedia's articles often were - re: a discussion I had prior to AU44 where a player insisted that Nin wouldn't work because of prior failures and that the only strat listed on 'clopedia required a paladin distance tanking)

There only relatively small number of people who are motivated to add and maintain information to community project like a wiki. If you look the "recent changes" on FFXIclopedia, you'd see most people are mostly just interested in maintaining a personal page ("My 4th 75 job!"). BG starting a wiki will siphon off a good number of those real contributors.
BG starting a wiki has created a storm of people interested in getting involved, and brought several of the old major contributors who had let things fall off at 'clopedia back. honestly. as long as BGWiki has contributors willing to update content other than endgame (and they will, since I'm one of those willing to do mid/early game) they've already got endgame and new content exploration in spades (notice how much even update info here is cross posted from BG).

Given how a BG wiki will likely turn out and given the split in the community of contributors it will create, I consider BG wiki to be a bad move.

it will create a split in contributors. the question of course is; how many will end up where? and how many who didn't contribute to an ffxiclopedia because of issues in the past with the administration/editing team there; will contribute to a BGWiki?

considering it's been less than 48 hours since BGWiki became a reality and it's currently locked while they populate the templates and categories (and they haven't even finished taking offers for mods yet) I think it's much to early to tell if a BGWiki is good or bad thing overall for the FFXI community.

I find it funny that noone had the since to even think " hey maybe he did not want to tell anyone about the sell/move, because he wanted to work out all the BS first, then tell everyone a nice clean and organized message"

thats what I would have done anyway, why tell people stuff when you first think about it, when its all in a mess, get it clean then tell.

I find it a bit insulting that Itazura would insinuate that I (or anyone) would give out sub-standard information to someone asking a question. Just because I don't give things out in the excruciating (and often unnecessary) detail that he does doesn't mean that I don't provide helpful answers to questions.

Did you even read the stuff Taj posted? They weren't waiting to "sort things out" they were waiting to "find the right story to spin" in order to cover their asses.

Yes, we get it. You don't like Taj. You've only mentioned it about a half dozen times in this thread alone.

GOD DAMNITT! This makes me quite angry!!

I use that site nearly every day to check up on info about chocobo raising, and to sometimes pop back to check the equipment lists for all the AF jobs too! They all have nice little pictures beside them of NPCs wearing the stuff, so would make it very easy to see what you would be expecting to wear ingame!!

But the choco raising one though.... thats the most important part for me on that site!! And now some stupid, idiotic ass hole hakkers have come along and really messed things up!! GRRRRR!! (not to mention that I have that site bookmarked too, save asking for it here. /sigh!)

Where on earth am I going to search for my choco info now?!
I found some of the info on that site to be rather unique in its own way too.
For e.g. it would list all the greens you could use to raise choco affection, (and other things which make that site unique in that way too) and it would tell you so too! I don't think I could find info like that anywhere else!!

DAMNED STUPID HAKKERS! They want a very sharp pointed sword shoved right where the sun doesn't shine.

Anyone got any ideas if this site is going to be sorted out in some way?
I'd LOVE to have it back again!
