I'm not very happy at the thought of a major body of info on FFXI can go down the drain just like that. .
BG will not die as long as FFXI is alive. Trust me. The sponsor is possibly more of a concern, but I am sure there will be back ups inplace.

I can't find direct source (i.e. a post from Sonomaa), but here:

Plus, if it's GFDL, that means that BGwiki can instantly copy any and all of the useful data the community has already put into ffxiclopedia (with no legal worries) without having to try to reinvent the wheel with a mega-thesaurus to avoid legal gotchas.

Plus, the ultimate accountability to the community is being able to take our community knowledge and move on if things go sour (see: current events). Not that I doubt BG admins' intent, but sh*t happens; people quit the game (or have to quit), free hosting deals change, etc. For all the negatives about the ffxiclopedia deal, the one good thing is that their choice to go GFDL from the start means that they can't lock up the community's work.
So, it's well known that BG wiki will not be copying from FFXIclopedia, and it will not be using GFDL (GNU FDL).

I rather not place trust in such a thing; expansion and replication is the key to survival through time, and sounds like BG plans on no one by themselves able to copy--meaning all back ups and the BG wiki itself is essentially in the same basket.

My issue is that the FFXIC people haven't responded - which makes them look bad. Also kind of proves Taj's point...

I'm going to give BG wiki a chance, Sonomaa will do his best to make sure the mods are the sensible posters, and with people like BRP....
I stopped agreeing with you right there. You could have saved yourself with just Elmer the Pointy, but no. I'm willing to give the rest of what you said a benefit of a doubt, but I'll respect the man the steps to the mic before the guy that hides on a forum and calls people names. Elmer is one of the people on BG I will give my respect even if he doesn't see eye-to-eye with me.

As for FFXIC responding, seeing as a lot of people on BG had already made up thier minds and even people on Alla appearing to have more open minds about the topic, we have little more than a "Damned if you do and damned if you don't" scenario.

Responding to it right away would have just stoked the flames, if you ask me, these kids were out for blood. But its really hearsay now either way, we'll never know. All we can do is wait for them to issue a response and watch.

Found this little gem on KI:

So essentially they had other ppl do the work and they profited from it? Same way Billy boy got rich along with Donald loltrump.
        He makes a good point.

So are you ready to boycott Windows?

Now, a lot of sites have since posted it, but a full year+ other sites posted it as fact, it was already being discussed and considered fact on the BG forums, usually with hard data to back it up.
Again, I can undestand a lot of people's aversion to using it, what with the plethora of drama that goes on there, but you really can't discount the knowledge those forums contain. A-holes or not, they know their shit.
Ya the crafting sections should be very very detailed about alot of the hq mechanics and data. Sadly Caspian, people here if they are in the no matter what Bg are elitist a-holes, they use it to discredit all knowledge. Most of them are butt hurt because they had their egos broke by someone with a bigger one.

If people could even tho they may not support/like a site be able to admit that they have knowledge, we really wouldn't have these problems.

Yes we know you are all butt hurt about BRP calling you out. Normally you do make posts that are so retarded (ffxi gameplay wise/ bitching about your job is not the best) that many of us go WTF. Trust me its a community joke at times BBQ, like my spelling grammar in my posts, just a standing joke.

Now let us get serious on this BBQ, it really does not matter if you are a friend of BRP or an enemy. BRP knows lore, he is not a dumb person. Ya he can be an a-hole at times, as we all can be. Just because you are not friendly with him you can not just discredit his knowledge.

We are not friends, but if someone on this board comes seeking knowledge on corsair, I send them to you. Hate =/= person has no knowledge. One day you may realize this and you can become a better asset to the community.

They were not out for blood until they refused to comment, Ganiman sent his lackeys and they said he would not comment on it, that sparked the already volatile situation. You have made up your mind but atleast post the facts rather then lies.

I should probably learn to use wget sometime, I could think of plenty of things I'd like to do with it if I really knew what it did.

it wasn't a matter of hurting my life, it was just dull. I tried coming back, once the novelty wore off, it was still just dull.

FFXI's battle and EXP system is just dull for me.

actually I'm looking to transfer, since comcast has been extremely comcrapstic lately.

I'm almost to the point where I'm about to break down and take DSL.
