  • A few questions...

my husband and i are interested in getting back into FFXI, but unfortunately it's been a couple years (i wont mention why) and we have to start over from scratch because of the 90 day rule(if it's changed, i'd love to hear it, but i doubt it).

Anyway, i'm wondering if any of the current servers are more or less english speaking friendly. As in, is there an unofficial US server of sorts? that sort of thing.

My other immediate question is, is there a way to buy and download the game codes online and save myself a trip to gamestop in the morning or not so much?(you can do this with wow, but the company i'm familiar with doesn't have any FFXI atm).

That's it for now! thanks for reading.

    Re: A few questions...

I think you're a little too far gone for an account recovery at this point. SE has grown more lienient about the 90 day rule, but only since the ToA days.

English-friendly servers: There's not really one server that's better than another in this regard, there are still proportionate amounts of english and Japanese-speaking players on the servers from what I've noticed. What's more is french and german speaking players have also entered the community in recent years.

And as far as I know, the PC version you need to have the $3.99 disk to download the expansion keys.

      Re: A few questions...

All of the servers have a mix of English Speaking and Japanese Speaking players. As well as European players and other various languages here and there.

What platform are you both playing on? If you're on the PC, you could buy two copies of the Vanadiel Collection, which retails for $20. That will give you registration codes for all of the current expansions in one box.

That said, your old accounts, if you didn't cancel the POL account, should still be good. Your characters likely won't be there anymore, but you could just buy new content IDs and go from there. You'd also need registration codes (and the install disks for) for any expansions you don't have, but you could at least get started for minimal cost if you still have your original disks, and remember the account details.

nah we for sure don't have the old disks. that was at least 3 years and 2 moves ago. looking for PC, i understand i can go to the store and get the box for $20, but that entails waiting till morning and driving out to gamestop(which isn't too close to us). I'm seeking any company that will sell me the same box via the net and just email me the reg codes. if there isn't one it's no big deal, was just wondering if anyone knew of one offhand.

        thanks guys.

I don't believe that's an option. You'll just have to go to the store. If you're really jonesing for a copy tonight, you could go to a 24 hour store like Meijer or Wal-Mart or something, and see if they have any copies.

Well, I wouldn't know. I don't shop there. It was worth a shot tho.

                  Re: A few questions...

I looked at their online site, and you can order it there, but it's not carried in stores. They have the Xbox 360 version in stores though.

Target carries it, and Meijer does too. At least, the ones near me do. But that might not be the same for you.

                    Re: A few questions...

target here closed at like 7. we always seem to get these "need to play" urges late on sundays. no idea why. not sure what Meijer is, which probably suffices to say that it isnt near us. oh well i'll just go out in the morning no biggie.

Heh. I get the same urges from time to time. I seem to recall scouring store shelves at 3AM for a copy of DAOC or something a while back.

                          Re: A few questions...

Not legally. You could torrent it, but SE doesn't provide a legit download of the game client at this time.

I would not buy keys for FFXI online. I know of no reputable suppliers that will give you registration keys.

Buy the real software package new (not used!). Otherwise you risk getting keys that have been banned or are otherwise invalid.
