  • Help with disks?

Okie, so I got FFXI, and I have the disks, and I made my account on another computer and everything, but the problem is, is that Idk how to play the disk on this computer, because the disks I have are dvd-roms. So, I really need help. If somone has an extra friend guest pass, I can download the game, even though I'm not sure If it is the whole game. But I need help!

    Get a DVD drive.

    Don't whine, just do it.
I use a Mac because I'm just better than you are.

We need to know the specs, and also if you have already tried running the setup from the DVD since autoplay could be disabled for that DVD drive.

I just checked and It is a cd/cdrw drive. Not a dvd drive. Mabey thats why. Anyone have an extra friend ID they are willing to let me use to DL the trial, and play with my real account?

Buddy pass download doesn't include expansion areas.

....you've no choice. One will need a dvd drive. 'Tis your only option. Yeah, I know it sucks....you wanna play the game really, really bad...I built a new computer once because I bought a game and didn't read sytem requirements....(pretty dumb huh? lol)

DVD drives are standard equipment these days. Since they aren't expensive, it would be a good time to upgrade your current rig a bit. ...think of it as preventative maintenance for your next few games..... Good luck!!

Well, I installed ToAU on my ancient PC without DVD drive by enabling file sharing on my sister's Mac (which has a DVD drive), then copied the content over the network in the house.

You don't have to get a DVD drive if you don't want to, but you/we probably should just get it...

                  yet not a mote of dust is stirred;
Moonlight pierces the depths of the pond,
leaving no trace in the water.

You know, I could have sworn that this required a DVD drive. I actually looked up the system requirements. Unfortunately, I'm at work....so I had to use what was posted on newegg due to the security measures employed by our IS/IT department.....

So without further ado, I'll apologize for giving poor advise and post the system requirements that I found......

                    Windows 98/2000/ME/XP
                    Pentium III 800MHz or faster
                    6GB hard drive
                    128MB RAM
                    32MB 3D video card
                    4x or faster CD-ROM drive
                    These are the minimum specs.

*What I don't know, and can't look up do to the environment that I'm posting from, is when this game and which version of it was released on dvd.

IfritnoItazura's post about installing the game over a local network is a good one though. I've only had to do that once....but it would work fine. If you don't want to purchase a DVD drive, and you have another machine in the house with a DVD drive, you might try setting up a network and installing the game that way. Best of luck!!
