  • Looking for some guidance!

    Hey everyone how are you?

Well i am finally returned to final fantasy xi and i just had a couple questions, if you can answer them that would be great if not, well thanks anyway for reading.

    1. I am planning on being a DRK and i was wondering, as i make my way up as warrior what type of weapon should i be using.

    2. At the moment i am a lvl 21 warrior using a great axe. There is an axe i want to buy and its called the neckchopper, but i recently found out that the neckchopper is also a drop. I just wanted to know which monster drops this and what lvl the monster is.

    3. I heard that food is very important at times and can help greatly. So i was curious what type of food is good for a melee type of character.

    4. My last question is abou tthe guilds. I was wondering which guild would be good for a starter just looking to make some quick bucks, or even help me at end game. At the moment i am trying to do some goldsmithing because i heard thats suppose to be pretty cool, but i still need one more.

Thank you very much everyone and take care

Great Axe, there is no benefit to using scythe or Great sword seeing you will have no problem capping them both, on drk.

For the time being and possible the full life of a 2h, Meat type food is your best. Kabobs are decent cheap and easy to make.

Goldsmithing takes alot of money, as a starter with little to no funds, your best bet is bonecrafting, leatherworking, woodworking or cooking IMO. Also you said you were on kujata right? If so click the DiV LS board or Click the FFXIO ls tag in my sig and you can get a pearl from one of us for in game help.

Any more questions feel free to ask.

Great Axe. Always use the best weapons for the jobs you are leveling, not what you might level. You'll have time to skillup G.Sword and Scythe as you level DRK.

http://ffxi.somepage.com/itemdb/food.php For a lot of your leveling career, you'll want to look at Accuracy foods.

Well yes and no. Usually at lower levels your gil will come from farming as every craft takes gil to make gil. Which one you specifically level probably doesn't matter and is up to you. Fishing is a low entry cost 'craft' that can make you some gil if you learn to target what fishies you want.

Now, for the rest of this ignore the fact fishing even exists, it doesn't follow these rules.

You can only take one craft to 100, the rest would be capped at 60. The way it works is you can level every craft to 60 and then have 40 levels to 'spend' how ever you want. For many that means taking one to 100. For others they might do a 70/90 split between two crafts or you could take 4 crafts to 70.

Just saying as you said you needed one more. The only need would be some subcrafts to compliment your goldsmithing if you stuck with that, and for that you would look at goldsmithing synths to see what they required. You can have both Fishing and one other craft at 100.

      EDIT: well damn.

Don't worry about choosing your final craft right now. You are more than likely going to need most crafts fairly close to 60 if you want to be a serious crafter so levels in any craft will probably help you later.

Honestly I would just look at crafting right now as a way to supliment your money making. Hate pushing my own guide but try looking at the crafting section in this money guide.

You can seriously profit while you skill all the way up to level 18 goldsmithing minimum so long as you start out with enough to make your first couple of stacks of Copper ingots, mine the zinc ores you need yourself (which gets you other profit items) and either wait for Silver Beastcoins to be cheap on the AH or farm them yourself.

Making gil through crafting keeps getting harder and harder as more and more durables are produced and kept in circulation.

The best way for a newer character to make money through crafting these days is non-HQ'able consumables and materials. Goldsmithing and Smithing can yield small profits at low levels simply though ingot making recipes. Leathercraft can do the same with turning hides into leather. Clothcraft has recipes for turning threads into cloth.

Aside from those kinds of recipes, you'll find it very hard to advance your crafting skill and still make money. It takes money to make money, and crafting is no exception. Take a craft as far you can taking advantage of ingot/leather/cloth recipes. But before you try to take any particular craft past that point, make sure you have steady income through some other means (some combination of farming, HELM, fishing, and gardening).
