  • Plat Grip or Pole Strap?

Right now I have a Mythril +1 grip (on loan until the summer), I'd like to get one but I'm but I'm a bit torn between the Platinum+1 and the Pole Strap.

Just as a note I plan on using an Imperial Nezza once I hit 71 and until I can obtain something like the Valkyrie's Fork, or Gugnir, I'm not too picky there, but let's assume I'll go for the Valkyrie's Fork since the added effect on the Gugnir may make a bit of a difference.

The reason I say that is because to my understanding the added effect on the Platinum Grip *may* conflict with the added effects on weapons. I don't know if it's true or not but it's what I've been told by my LS.

I was in a Mire party with a Drk (not sure what weapon he was using) but he had a Platinum Grip. We partied for about an hour and a half, maybe more, and I only saw the added effect go off, maybe 4-5 times at most, and it never seemed to last long.

Is that the standard I can expect from a Platinum Grip, HQ or not? Can it proc on jumps? If the proc rate is decent, say somewhere between 1/10 - 1/20, then I could see that as being useful and I may want to choose that over a Pole Strap, otherwise I'd probably want to go for the Pole Strap for the +double attack.

What do you guys think? As a lvl 70+ 2handed user what would you go with and why?

You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be misqouted and then used against you.

I don't have a big ego, it just has a large mouth.

Platinum Grip-> Hnm/Gods not zerging or mobs with dangerous aoe tp moves. Stun will benefit more there.

Polestrap => Normal exp or places you need tp faster.

Also-> You know we have no clue about how to obtain the Valk Fork or if it is currently in game usable

Stun would benefit more there, however it is totally random when it goes off, so how do you compare the potential for stun vs the potential for an extra attack?

Yup, but I can dream/plan ahead accordingly

I use Mythril Grip +1 full time.

Um... as far as polearms, if you're talking Gungnir or VF just get a Mezraq. I know 'everyone' seems to have it, but there's a reason. The Mezraq is the best moderately obtainable polearm in the game. Gungnir is nice but the difference between the two isn't worth 40 mil.

Stun going off can be the difference in deaths, where extra attacks will only make you wait longer for you sc partner.

Yeah, 40 was off the top of my head. It really depends on the crew and the runs I suppose. We tend to get 250-350 on sponsored city runs. That works out to about 50-60 mil depending on whether or not you get a loan for the 30 stripeshells you get at the end. Regardless, I'd rather take 10 mil or so and camp the AH and bazaars for a Mez +1. The NQ Mezraq holds its own quite well in the meantime though.

I also use Mythril +1. If were lucky we would have gotten something that would proc as much as ranged weapons do. I don't think the stun procs would out perform the added dmg and acc from mythril.

Does the pole strap grant DA? I have read it does and it doesn't.
              Thanks Kazuki.

It should. Every item with +2A/+3A grants it, just like Store TP or Subtle Blow.

Oh I know it's a good lance, but quite honestly I have not seen one on the AH for quite some time when I could buy it, annnddd, just not interested in it for 1+million for the NQ, especially since the Imperial Nezza is only 2 damage off. If I'm going to have to put in that much work camping the AH and saving up all that cash, it's gonna be for something pretty damn cool.

Not saying that the Mezraq isn't neat and all, but that's my thinking in a nutshell.

It should, that's how all the other gear works with that particular wording. So I think it is the Bushido Cape grants Zanshin, and so on.

I don't fault you at all for using the Neza. It's just that the Gungnir isn't nearly worth the time or 50-70mil more gil it would require anymore when compared to the 1mil for the Mez. Especially considering SE just made the Acc+20 stat on the Gungnir mostly moot with recent updates.

As far as the VF, it may be useful but it looks like it will be a final result of Eihenwhatzit.

Another option far down the line may be the Nyzul polearm. There's a lot of speculation out there about unlocking the Nyzul weapons' true potential.

Re: Plat Grip or Pole Strap?

A few facts that I've come across when experimenting with both straps:

                        Platinum Grip +1:

-Stun proc for HQ is higher than NQ, and roughly about the same rate as NQ Mezraq's Evasion Down proc (En-Stun is a particularly powerful ability, so naturally it'll have a lower proc rate, even for HQ).

-The proc rate for the grip will interfere with the proc rate(s) for effects you have on weapons (Mezraq's proc, for example).

                        Pole Strap:

-It does grant Double Attack (test with a non-DA weapon, no DA gear, and no WAR/ - /WAR job combo).

-The 2% stacks with other DA gear.

I tend to put Pole Strap on my Mezraq (party combo), and Plat +1 on my Tournament Lance (solo combo), and both setups really work well. It's a matter of preference, really.

I'd get Valkyrie's Fork; Gungnir, while good, isn't so much greater that it blows every other lance away. Like others have said, Mez +1 parses damn close to Big G (and it shouldn't, really; no relic weapon should ever be threatend with any weapon you can get of its type by any other means, ever. Period.). Yar, I wouldn't turn one down, but I'd put forth more effort to get V Fork over Big G.
