If we don't like something, collectively, if our hatred for it throbs like an abscess beneath every thread, does that mean that they're doing something right?

As hard as it may be, don't take this game or your characters too seriously. I promise you - the guys that really own your account don't.

Unique doesn't mean you're the only person capable of something. It means you're fundamentally different from others you compare yourself to. Considering almost all the 6 billion or whatever people in the world have entirely unique genetic makeup, and even the people who have exactly identical genes are distinguishable due to differences in their life experiences and choices, I don't see how an arguement can even be made for there being no such thing as uniqueness. There are vast groups of people who are very similar depending on the criteria on which you judge them, but that doesn't mean that there are not differences.
Like I said...the more you compare...the more you'll agree that your "unique." Which your not...
random example;
person1
picks his nose with right hand
use X brand toilet paper
use B brand soap
person2
picks his nose with right hand
use X brand toilet paper
use C brand soap
person3
picks his nose with left hand
use Y brand toilet paper
use B brand soap
Are we to assume that person2 is unique cause he uses C brand soap. And person3 is unique for using Y brand toilet paper and using his left hand? I would say they're different...but saying their unique is abit too much.
On a deeper, perhaps more meaningful level, skill at various aspects of a job varies from player to player. To broadly categorize my proficiencies as a rdm, I am top notch in a support/healing role, above average as a kiter, and probably still above average as a blink tank, though that isn't saying much since I consider the average player's skill as a blink tank very poorly. I'm friends with a lot of red mages, and their skills and experience are significantly above or below my own in each area. In a given situation, you absolutely could not swap out myself or any of my rdm friends with eachother and expect to achieve the same results. Even in situations where are skill levels are similar, we play with different styles that alter the result of the fight. Avesta and Amunaptra both soloed Bune for example. Avesta soloed him using a melee technique and two years lated Amunaptra used a kiting technique. Because they both achieved the result of Bune dying, does that mean their accomplishments and thus their characters are not unique? Of course not. The details and contexts of each event were unique, as were the people behind them.
That's an extraordinary feat. That's more of skill/talent then uniqueness. I'm sure your rdm friends...those that are not upto par to you. What makes you think that they can't reach your level of skill or surpass you? Time, gill, and resource (ls) do play a big role in this comparisons but if those factors didn't exist...I don't see how it would be impossible the same results. But like that previous example...these subtle changes only makes you different...not unique.
Here's the thing...we can assume that talent is based on speed. Anyone can do anything when given unlimited of time.
Anyways, if you want unique example;
Someone born with a fourth arm (don't know anyone who fits this).
A human breathing without the need of oxygen (don't know anyone who fits this).
These are things that you can't replicate...thus are unique.
Your examples are far too broad. If you're going to paint everyone with such broad strokes, then yeah, you'll be hard pressed to find anyone unique. Thankfully, that's not the way the world actually is.
Sanctuary:
O to be argumentative just to be argumentative,,, that is one of the aspects that helps to make you unique..
and completely off topic, yes there are people unfortunate enough to be borne with extra appendages, but since we all still have appendages and in some number, I guess that negates the unique factor huh.
As I said before our collective real life experiences and our genetic makeup and our influences and our response to those influences all build and shape us. We are unique, each and every one of us, just as we are all alike in some ways, and those characteristics come through in a game like this. Maybe not when you are cookie cutter leveling, but in a full/almost full immersion system like this, where people spend inordinate amounts of time and develop friendships, it is impossible that your personality wouldn't become prevalent in your character.

Just because it's another arm...it doesn't mean it's not unique. Can you grow an extra appendage this moment? Suppose you could attach another arm to yourself (like sew one on XD) or perhaps use a prosthetic one but it still wouldn't be same as if your were born with a third one.
Suppose these better analogies;
The reason why I say ingame there nothing unique is cause everything can be obtainable or rather, everyone can have access to.
There no super secret quest item that's only available to one person. Kind of like how kite (.hack//sign) was unique cause he had the twilight bracelet.
To a person who starting the game...seeing a thf/nin in qufim with 20mp (wearing no mp gear) will be a "what the heck moment" and will think this character is unique. But for those that have access to a level 75 character...we know that thf/nin with 20mp is not special or unique for that matter...just means he has level 2 mp merits. Hell, you can even reproduce effect by eating a melon pie.
I think you misunderstood my comparisons of those 3 people. The point I was trying to illustrate there was that...that so called uniqueness (personality, life experience, friends, memories, etc.) are really just differences...they are not fundamentally unique. Saying so...just cheapen the value of unique.
