  • Looking for Group

Feel free to flame me if this has been proposed before. I did a quick search and couldn't find any recent activity along these lines, so here I go.

    /em flame shields up

Would it be possible to add a flag to allow a player to look for a party as one job while playing another.
    For example / explanation:
My BLM is not getting an invite, but I have limited playtime so I go work on my BST since I can easily solo it.
Ideally I would like to put my party flag up and have people looking for a BLM find me for an invite instead of overlooking me as a BST which I am playing as at the moment.

Off-topic, but you know what was the first thing I thought of when I saw this post?

You can't specifically seek as another job when on a different one. You can however put a comment that you seeking as a BLM as well in the comment, though I don't think it'd be very effective, especially if they are different levels.

When looking for party members I use the search command. Say I'm looking for party members on my 43 war, I do the following:

      /sea all 42-44 inv

This returns a list of all players looking for a party in that level range. I can narrow the search by level, job, area/zone, rank, nation and other criteria.

The problem is, if your character information is correct, is that you'll be on a level 12 character when I do the search, and your name won't appear. Thus I won't see that you are actually seeking as a BLM. So if a level 20ish party leader (the level of your blm) does the following:

      /sea all 19-21 inv

Your name won't be on that list even though your blm is in that level range because you are currently on a level 12 job and thats not in the search critera.

Now if your BLM and BST were the same level, or at least close it's possible you could get party invites for your BLM while on BST. You'd have something like 'Level 20 BLM and BST, Prefer party as BLM" in your search comment. A party leader would see your name in the search command as a BST, but would read the comment and choose if they'd like to invite you as a BLM to the party.

However, you'll find some party leaders don't bother reading comments, so they'll just assume you're a BST only and not see that you're seeking as a BLM.

This feature works better at level 75, Your search comment would say something like '75 BLM, BST, WHM, WAR, BRD'. Since you have 5 jobs at 75 a party leader can see your comment and choose which job the party would need most.

They're was some talk I believe about being able to seek as other jobs, but I believe the plan was abandoned or never officially confimed, regardless the option is not available.

If you really wish to level BLM during your playtime, you're starting to enter the level range that BLM can start soloing.

The above is a guide I used to solo. You can solo while seeking, thus increase your chances of being invited on your BLM job. Expect to die a bit while you get use to soloing.

Essentially the explanation that was given was they would have to totally rewrite the search system and it wasn't a high enough priority to make a concerted effort for.
