  • No Name For Galkan Female Players?

I have a thought on something.
Now, everyone knows that a male player playing a mithra is known as manthra. (the only female race in Vana 'diel) How about Galka? Shouldn't there be a name for female Galka players? I'm sure there musta been a few of those around before, (the players I mean) but I wondered why I haven't heard of any names for them. I would probably call them Galkaress or something..... just make something up I guess. But there isn't really an official name, is there?
    Why not?

    Yes.

    "Mentally troubled".

Actually, that goes for males that play Galka, too.

Hating on Galka is so 2004.

There aren't enough Galka players in general for there to be a term. Besides, Galka are asexual. So they don't need a gender specific name.

Even so, girls who have a Galka char are usually referred to as Girlka (or something like that).

But that's reaaaaally (reaaaaaally) really old news.

I still call Bastok Asstok, so I guess some things will never die. I think I heard somebody call them Gurlkas, but we all know there's no gurls on the internet.

It already has "Gal" in it, what more do you want?

But yeah I haven't really heard a term for them until this thread either. Weird eh?

At first I thought Jei was a blue Jellyfish but that thought got dispelled when he started using his own pic as his avatar.

Now I know Jei is a puppet.

My offline female Galka-playing friend proudly has called herself a Girlka since the dawn of time.

However, when my coworker found out I play FFXI and called me a Manthra, I didn't know how to take it.

Re: No Name For Galkan Female Players?

I wonder given the fixation on player gender with single-gender races (and using the term gender, Galka are explicitly defined by SE as male (or masculine if you prefer); their sex is neuter, but these are separable concepts), just how common/uncommon it is for players to play characters of the opposite gender from dual-gender races, and whether people show any greater or lesser amount of concern over this. I have noticed that even as a female hume with a distinctly female name I tend to get referred to as 'he' or 'him' at least until I show up and they see my character model (and even afterwards much of the time). This can be somewhat explained by the tendency to presume that everyone on the Internet is male by default, but seems odd given that there seems to be no such stigma on female Elvaan/Hume/Tarutaru as I've seen for Mithra.
