What do you want to see in the DX9 upgrade?

Mostly curious.

Personally, earlier I heard a snippet of the Windurst music, and it almost made me cry, so I'd kinda like to have FFXI work in WINE (even though it probably won't happen) -- even if I don't like the game, the world is still fun to explore.


I know a lot of people are hoping for the graphics to be revamped (even though it probably won't happen), or people hoping that capes and jewelry become visible (even though it probably won't happen)

So what do you want to see in the DX9 upgrade (even though it probably won't happen)

It's fine for me.

The problem lies in the few and expensive graphic cards that can run DX10. I know only the GeForce 8 series can run DX10 on nVidia's side.

Would SE totally recreate FFXI to make it on DX10 like that... err no, they won't give us anything new that we want because of PS2 limitations, why spend several million upgradeing it to anything near DX10's cap.

Probably not related to DX8 -> DX9 conversion, but it would be nice to remove the FPS cap when they do it.

Not that I'd be opposed, but I think that's impossible. The game processes actions, AI, etc 29 times a second, not just graphics.

Calm. Down. Please. It was just a passing comment, and I wanted to prove a point when you said that DX10 looks like shit because it does not. That picture illustrates the difference in potential level of details.

On topic, I honestly thought FFXI was running in DX-9 silly me.

What more could they do though, if anything? SE already said they don't want to make any improvements that can't be shared across all 3 platforms.

We all well know that all the DX9 upgrade will do is....

1) add windowed mode

2) improved graphics card useage (things loading alittle faster... less video lag)

Yeah, you can't really expect much from the upgrade but I'll repeat what I've said the last 100 times the subject came up:

All I want is an emulation engine upgrade (please do not confuse this with a full model remake/upgrade, they are completely different things) which would include:

-Hardware acceleration support
-Better texture handling
-AA support
-True-form support (very very optional)
-Improved particle effect handling
-Much larger drawing distance
-Improved frame rate

All this changes should be quite easy once XI gets DX9 support, but it seems they will never happen.
