If we don't like something, collectively, if our hatred for it throbs like an abscess beneath every thread, does that mean that they're doing something right?

As hard as it may be, don't take this game or your characters too seriously. I promise you - the guys that really own your account don't.
I knew a bastard like you would pull that card, that's why I didn't bitch up and start apologizing profusely. -_-
She loved my Vorpal Thrust by the way.

to compare, most people start colibri 5 levels later (8-10 level gap) there's a ton more bards around today than there were even a year ago; and alot of people are on their second job, with better gear, mid-level merits, and experience with fighting things that aren't IT+++.
~ There are a lot more melees playing BRD for melee merits before and during ToA, once they're done, you never see those BRDs again. The BRD populace is still in proportion to the RDM populace pre-ToA. BRD has only had a 1% growth over the last year and where do those "BRDs" go at endgame? That's right, they come as MNK, DRK, DRG, THF or w/e.
But at EXP levels? BRDs are just as rare as they ever were. BRDs are easier to find at merit levels, but that's about it.
~ I question that merits have much to do with this, too. Before I earned my first merit on Kitten, I was once-shotting imps in mire as 73/74 RNG/WAR and having Sidewinder contests with highly merited SAM/RNGs. And that was still with Selene's Bow. These mobs go down with relative ease compared to the Deco Weps in sky.
You can point to the PLD mobs we fought before if you want, it doens't change the fact that these other mobs can stand to be a little tougher. SE plays far too closely to their established job rules and mob designs and they shouldn't have to when it comes to making monsters to fight.
After all the plain sadistic mobs SE threw at us in RoZ and CoP, ToA mobs are wimps by a wide margin and its not just because I have more merits now.

Case in point, SE has variety in the game, but people don't like to travel.
Which is why I dispise the hub design of ToA. There is no travel, no true exporation and no adventure to going out in these areas after you get the staging point. I LOVE Assault, but just hate the laziness its created in players. Even with the sky warp in place, you can't get people to go to sky for a weapon PT because...
RDM mobs aren't fun. Aura weapons SUCK to dispel. As do the Troll RDMs.
There's always another excuse. If its not too far, then its something else.
Seeing as WotG has 30 zones revamped, I'm expecting a little more from them than being mission backdrops like they were in CoPs and while I look forward to the Assault-like content, they better not pull that staging point crap again. it only breeds the laziness further.
Cry all you want about travel, but RPGs are supposed to be about travelling and adventuring. But keep crying and I'm sure we'll eventually get a Teleport-Dragon's Aery.
The most annoying thing to me is that people don't even seem to remember pre-toau areas. You guys would agree deco weapons all to your pt > 6 parties battling for a 90 xp puk in mamool ja staging point right Cause a lot of idiots don't. Whenever we lose besieged and the AC is gone people have a heart attack about not being able to xp/merit at all D: A few weeks ago it was gone for like 4 days and people were freaking out and complaining in /sh forever (of course no one could be bothered to help get it back but w/e)
Merited of Trolls once, the RDM were easy as everything else.
Hub design isn't a problem and ToAU didn't invent it, Prior to ToAU, it was Jeuno from 20-75.
I fully expect Wings to do little regarding where people EXP/Merit. Mobs will either be as hard as pre-ToAU leaving the zones as empty as pre-ToAU areas are now or they will be as easy as ToAU mobs but since the areas are much farther away then ToAU camps are, the zones are still left as empty as pre-ToAU zones are now.
The staging point thing was no different then Teleports, its just that ToAU areas aren't really big enough to justify 6 of them.
Try a bard and DD that bailed to a party after I tell them, we're going bird and ram hunting in the meadows
Then we got this insane DRK/sam that pulled out a constant 1k-1.6k on Steel Cyclone, 600-900 on Cross Reaper, and 700-800 on Spinning Slash. If it had been a ToAU camp we'd run out of mobs faster than they die o.o;
Jeuno wasn't nearly as powerful as a hub. It was just all we had.
It's what the playerbase wanted though, for better or worse. Prior to ToAU people would bitch at every opportunity how much of a time sink travel in FFXI was and how long it took to actually get anywhere to do anything.

Starting cities have the best amount of travel, outpost warps, airtravel, and toau warp.
