It's possible I'm wrong as I haven't purchased a gold world pass in over a year, but aren't these correct locations for passes:As you can see, I just cut/paste from the ffwiki entry on world passes. If i'm wrong, someone should probably update the page, or at least the gold world pass page.

Also, while the allure of "special items" might seem enticing, the items you receive aren't really all that spectacular. I remember when my friends and I went back to claim our prizes after 100 days, we go to choose some silly items that temporarily changed our characters' looks, aka a costume. Then the fun is over.

And most people hardly ever use the Guide Beret, if they ever use it at all.

All in all though, as long as you both start FFXI with an open mind and don't compare every detail to past MMO experiences (see WoW), you will probably enjoy the game thoroughly. It starts off a little slow at the beginning, but really, really opens up by level 30. Not to mention, starting with a friend will make the newb experience much more rewarding. Having a RL friend to explore with will do wonders for your experiences and enjoyment.

    Good luck!

PLD75 DRK60 lots of other levels.

The both of you should start in the same nation, and look up quests in the FFXIclopedia for your city. Some quests are harder than others, and some are simple as pie. Having a friend should make them all easier.

I remember my beginning experience. So much potential and adventure. Now I've seen a lot of it, and I've done a lot of it, and I just don't feel that sense of adventure.

Asura seems like a better choice due to the population and majority of US players but I don't want to make my friend wait for me to make 1,000 gil just so he can start playing. Anyways thanks for all your help guys and I'll update with how my first day goes.
Honestly man, get the 1k gil. It will take you no more then 1 hour to earn, tops. It would take me like 5 seconds but I've been playing for 3 years and have a 71 BLM .

I'm on Midgardsormr to, though I am considering switching.

Really though, all you have to do is this:

        1) Talk to your nation's guard(name begins with have. title,I.E. in Windurst you have W.W. helloiamaNPC. Sandy, you have T.K.[or is it R.K.?] and get Signet)

        2) Go outside, and kill monsters that /check as "Decent Challenge" or "Easy Prey".

        3) Obtain 12 Crystas of a given type(Wind, Water, Fire)

        4) Sell on Auction House(NOT to NPCs)

        5) you have 1-5k gil, depending on what crystals you sold and were you started.

Alternatively, you can ask someone for 1k. 1,000 is NOTHING in FFXI for anyone over lv 10. Just be sure to be polite and say"Excuse me, can I please borrow 1,000 gil so I can get a gold world pass and join the buddy system with my friend?" but don't say "Hey dude, can I have 1k?", certainly not "1k plz" or worst of all "L0LZ I AM TEH 1337 I N33D GIL T0 GET G0LD!"

Re: 2 Newbs Joining FFXI From WoW

          Hello and welcome to FFXI,
I played FFXI for about 2 years then went to WoW because I had some RL friends that wanted me to play. I got to level 70 Hunter then quit and came back to FFXI. With that swich over I developed a fondness for the Job system and Missions in FFXI that I never had before.

If you loved makeing alts in WoW to try out different classes then you will really like the Job change system. After level 30 you can be any class in the game and easily change between them depending on what you want to do. Alot of older, hardcore players have several jobs at 75 and will constantly change them depending on what their LS needs.

Story is something that I thought was really missing from WoW (or at least poorly executed). Sure some quest chains might have a consistent story but there was nothing that spanned just about every zone in the whole game. As a new player the missions might not be that great, but when you hit level 30 and can start doing CoP missions every 10 levels it should keep you motivated to level. Hell, the last few chapters of CoP was what motivated my ass to get to 75 because I HAD to know what happened in the story.

As for servers, Migerstorm is a server I hear alot of good things about. My server, Bahaumt, has a good sized hardcore end-game community and is home to one of (possibly the) most popular end game LSs out there: The Order of the Blue Gartr.

No Ifs Ands or Buts about it.
          Rest of my sig

Re: 2 Newbs Joining FFXI From WoW

Glad to hear that there are more newbies condsdering Midgardsormr...I mean I could use the people for parties whenever Wings of the Goddess comes out and/or I wana do more low-leveling.(hey it pays to be verstile when it comes to missions)

Anyway I really need to get on the ball and update the newbie guide I wrote right before I started playing retail....it was good but it's way out-of-date now....

Anyway I hope you consider joining us...even if we are a small server...

BTW: I'm abit busy these days but if you have specific questions and can corner Shadowneko(me) I'll answer them the best I can ^^
