  • Merit info in search comments

I was pondering how my search comment should evolve as I gain more merit upgrades. So here is a simple question to you folks.

If you were putting a party together (or looking for a replacement), and saw in a search comment "Merits: 12", how would you interpret that?

Number of merits doesn't much matter unless you have upwards of 10 or more levels (not total points earned, levels). Otherwise the efficiency gain isn't enough to impact a decision no matter what you've invested in, and makes you look pretentious if you have less than that.

There's people with hundreds of merit points, but generally speaking those people have reputations to that effect and need no introduction amongst the people that know.

My search comment, even with all the merits I have generally goes...

      All area o - job change 75 whm/blm
      English/Japanese Party ok
      Veteran Party please

I'm generally on rdm/whm searching, so that really says all I need it to. The only time merits tend to come into play on search comments is, say if you are lower level, and your merits give you a WS early, for instance, Viper Bite at 32 rather than 33.

I am generally the least picky about this of anyone, as what merits you do/don't have don't really mean squat to me. You could have 2000 merits and still be a shitty player. Probably not, but you could be.

Really, all I'd want to know is if your merits will affect your job significantly. Say you're a 75 WHM and a 75 PLD but you've merited emnity on your PLD, this is something I might want to know when you're going to be our WHM. That would probably affect who/what tanks, or whether or not we want you as healer.

Generally if you've got both of those jobs to 75 I don't see why you would merit something like emnity, but granted, just in case you did, I'd want to know about it.

          My usual /seacom:

          <Home Point> <Aht Urgan>
          <Runic Portal> 6/6 <Sky>
Invite me cause I have boobs

Or something similarly "witty" (Read stupid) for the third line. I haven't bothered with seacoms in a long time, since I haven't bothered lfp for a while. I know there was a time when I experimented with all sorts of different seacoms, listing gear, listing merits, listing talents, or just plain saying something off the wall and random. After a couple months I decided it didn't really make a difference one way or the other.

Now I basically use the /seacom as a sort of signature, although since it's not visible from friendlist I don't know how many people see the random crap I put in it anyway.

Yes, it was inspired by the Simpsons
If you know how to download and use VRS, I am interested in being tutored.

I wouldn't be worried about +Enmity on a White Mage at 75. There's so much -enmity gear available that you'd have to be trying to pull hate in a merit party when playing WHM no matter how much you have invested in enmity+.

The only time I'd be concerned with +/- enmity is Enmity- with Paladins in a traditional party or Enmity+ with rangers or black mages. Couldn't care less about any other jobs with enmity.

Re: Merit info in search comments

Making invite decisions based on merits accumilated is like inviting someone based on rank - its an outdated and flawed mentality. These things might have mattered a bit more when you were amoung the first to get Rank 10 or lots of merits, but now? Not so much.

I really wouldn't worry about it.

              My search comment is:

              I'm pulling? No Corsair's Roll.
BRD to Pull? Corsair's Roll for PT.
Complimantary jobs for best buffs, please.

If they ask me about the last line, I'll tell them what I mean.

Its not that I can't pull - I can pull like hell on wheels - I just don't like to pull. I know someone will ask for Corsair's Roll, but its too hard to manage that while pulling and not optimal in that arrangement. And if the PT gets me a good mix of jobs, I have lots of buff options to compliment to skills and DD output of a PT.

I really just concern myself with the PT setup itself. I'm not going to say "no" to a DRG and BLU in a PT, but they better have a WAR and SAM to go with them and a RDM to refresh the BLU or it ain't gonna work for me. I'm not gonna waste my time refreshing a BLU on the frontlines or rolling a weak buff because they couldn't get a proper job to compliment my buffs while it was seeking.

Sad thing is that after hundreds of merits and Rank 10, endgame gear and all that there are still people who can't simply build a PT with balanced strengths. So all that other stuff means very little to me.

My RNG and BRD comments are far less particular, though I do warn people I like to /WAR my RNG in merit. I hate subbing /NIN like poison.
